We all have two modes: being very good at the game, and being very ridiculously bad at it. The thing that makes Scar different is that he has managed to convince everyone that mode 1 is rare, so the 50% of the time that he's being good it seems better than average, and when he's not doing good it's just average silly scar lol. Seriously, his ability to underestimate himself and be underestimated by others is... It's really good but I can't think of a way to put it that doesn't seem insulting lol Oh and by "the game" I mean the survival and pvp aspects; Scar's always good at building lol

The gist of the portal problem is that the nether is squashed in the horizontal directions but not in the vertical direction, and portals connect based on distance in three dimensions. This basically means portals have to be eight times farther per block horizontally than they do vertically, which is unintuitive. This especially causes issues if you're trying to get to the nether roof, or similar cases where you're trying to portal across very distant y-levels. So if you're at y level 70~ in the overworld, trying to get to a portal on the nether roof which is around 130~, you're 60 blocks away vertically in either dimension, but in order to be sixty blocks away horizontally in the nether, you need to be 480 blocks away horizontally in the overworld. This means portals that seem very distant in the overworld horizontally are liable to connect wrongly because each vertical block of difference is worth eight blocks horizontally. Putting a portal ten blocks higher seems "right there" but that's the same as putting it 80 blocks horizontally, which is "way over there." Basically, when looking at the coords to place your nether portal, consider the vertical distance 8x as "strong" as horizontal distance, and you'll be a lot less likely to have problems.

The "shrackers", as you call them, are actually the skulk sensors. The SHRIEKERS are the horned blocks that receive signals from the sensors, then shriek and summon the Warden. Breaking blocks generates sound. You have to surround either all the sensors or the shriekers if you don't want to deal with the Warden. Taking out the shriekers is also a good idea.

So, the thing with portals is that every portal block does its own calculation to find the closest portal. It's not one portal, it's a wall of portals. Also, you could create a portal in the main nether area to set the portal to not the mail system. The portal seeks out the nearest one a 1/8 the X and Z on the nether side and the same Y. Because the portals on top of the nether are so high up, you need to be closer to it go where you want.

Instead of trapping the mail system portal you can build another portal below the nether hub. Just match the same Y level (nice) in the nether and that portal will be picked. That way you can add your trap without disrupting the mail system. Portals pick the coordinate that closest matches the coordinate of the block your feet is inside of when you go through, the X/Z coordinates get divided (from overworld) or multiplied (from nether) by 8. But it also checks the Y coordinate, this time it doesn't multiply or divide it. Though, if you want to be able to get through to the hub area you will have to create it further down so that the top bit of the portal goes to the hub. Might require some playing around with. As long as the mail portal goes through correctly on both sides it's fine.

you can put honey blocks on the lead up so people have a harder time getting to the portal, or running away when they realize they've made a mistake. Honey blocks work through non-full blocks, so you can even hide them under half slabs.
