Btw for anyone reading this who’s thinking of getting an orchid mantis for their first mantis, don’t. They’re going extinct in the wild because of smuggling due to the high demand. If you want an orchid, get immersed in the mantis community and start with something easy, then later you can buy an orchid from a trustworthy breeder who breeds theirs in captivity instead of smuggling them from Malaysia. Even if you don’t care about that, online information on orchids is scarce and often inconsistent, meaning the chances are very high for you to kill your pet. So just don’t get one. There’s lots of amazing mantis species who are much less risky, such as the ghost mantis and Indian flower mantis.

Ok but almost all if not all orchid mantises in the UK and many other countries are captive bred. I have never seen wild caught orchid mantises for sale... I agree orchid mantises aren’t the most simple thing to take care of ever, but they are by no means an advanced species.
@isaacswift89503 жыл бұрын
But yeah, in other countries it could be an issue if they are being taken out of the wild in large numbers
@guccipucci25603 жыл бұрын
@@isaacswift8950 if they caught them wild, they won’t say so on the listing. I’m sure you’re fine, it was just for general public knowledge because if you’ve been involved in the mantis community at all, TONS of people buy orchids without any knowledge of them. Also, I’ve kept orchids. They’re easy for someone with experience. But considering the massive number of orchids being bought and killed right now, it’s probably better to spread the message that they aren’t for beginners. Too many orchids are dying and it’s honestly horrible.

@@guccipucci2560 yeah I get that, I don’t know I usually ask to check whether an animal is WC or CB first but I guess other people wouldn’t think to look for something like that🤷♂️

This isn’t a hate comment, but as someone who keeps several species of mantis and understands oothecas (egg cases) as common knowledge, the title and thumbnail of this video are goddamn hilarious. Imagine someone’s bird lays an egg and they’re like “WTF IS THIS *WEIRD*”

Sometimes a female may hatch from those. I've seen it happen with Chinese mantis. All the eggs inside are only female's. Less fertile eggs inside but sometimes a few emerge.

I wasn't seeing praying mantises are scary I was saying that the way they all hatch out at once it's similar to the way spiders in scary movies hatch
