Hi Donny, This is a very good informational video and very interesting. I always flush in a bin but my outboards have a built-in flush system. I have heard a lot of different stories about the built-in system. Some people say you can run the motor and some say you can't and have been told the flush system doesn't flush all the motor parts, all totally confuse me. So at least you have put all these issues to rest for me. Thanks Steve 👍

An excellent fully informative report, based on very real experience. I think you have done exactly the right thing Donny. The four strokes are ideal for trolling a spinner too. Do keep an eye on sea dog Fang though, as he's just given up smoking Capstan full strength behind you. As the French navy always say " To the water, it is the hour!" (a l'eau, c'est l'heure!).

Hello Danny. Would you do a video walk through of how your boat is set up please? I really enjoy your videos and had a wee inflatable myself but was a little unsure of what was really need to be safe on lo ger journeys. You seem to have battery, solar panel etc. Would be great to learn more from you. Thanks.

I have bought same outboard yamaha 25hp it's great. Half throttle 18mph full throttle 23 mph. 2 up on a excel vanguard XHD435.
@donnywilcox
@donnywilcox 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Timothy ..yup..that is figues that I would expect .. the Excel Vanguard will have a lot more drag than the Alu Hull Rib I have and possibly more weigh two up which will account for the difference. Thanks for commenting :-D

excellent comparison. same boat, same routes. very different results where it counts on the fuel economy. I have the Yamaha 8 HP two stroke because i carry it separate down to the water every time so the weight difference is still a factor for me. We will see how long i will keep it. with the price of gas and increasing emissions regulations.
@donnywilcox
@donnywilcox 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul.. yes your choice of outboard makes sense to me ..smaller two strokes are lighter. Up here E5 is now £2.03 per litre though..so thats a heafty weight for my wallet to carry :-D

Great review, I took went from the mercury 25hp (mariner) two stroke to this motor when it first came out. I had some initial issues being one of first owners and being at high elevation. Eventually sold it. I bought another F25 the older carbie model. It's 30lbs pounds more in weight. It is however quieter than the efi model and doesn't shake as much. They used the same bottom gear case for all 25hp so the water.pump and props all work from old.two strokes too. Service manual says timing belt at 500 hours. Otherwise time I had the motor it always started.

Hi Omie ..my bro has the carb 15hp yamaha four strike so I know the carbed ones are great outboards too ..thanks for commenting :--D

Well done Donny it is certainly a very big difference in many areas. I think it is at the small size of 10 - 15 hp on sibs where to have to lift your motor about that the weight advantage of the 2 strokes come into their own.
@donnywilcox
@donnywilcox 2 жыл бұрын
Yup ..agreed the smaller sizes suit two strokes for the set up every time guys. Many use trailers now though..even for smaller outboards ...so I feel it important they know how exxpensive two strokes are if doing any milage..however its not much more if only going out an hour or so :-D

GREAT insight I have bought and still not used my boat or my 9'9hp Orca back up engine. I am getting myself The new Suzuki DF20A it is on order and that will be my main engine. Not sure if I am talking to myself here but if you do read, Thanks for sharing love your video's. Ray K. UK. YNWA.

Hi Ray ..thanks for the many kind commets you have posted about the videos..its appreciated. I believe you were wondering about the bow covers on our boats? I dont think you can buy then as we all make them ourselves. Gordons was made from a Honwave carry bag which is why it has a Honwave logo. I believe Excel make one for their boat which may suit you ? I generally reply when I see folks posting but only when I upload a new video, otherwise I would spend half my life replying as soon as someone posts. Hope you can understand that reason. I also loose track of relies made in older videos as I dont check them after a few weeks of being on line. Thanks again for your kind comments .. and enjoy the videos :-D

hi donny---good-comprehensive evaluation------i have had a 15 hp 4 stroke yamaha from new-----now 15 years old------after a few years use it started to run rough on tickover-----every 2-3 years i have the carb professionly cleaned in a sonic bath-----comes back like new------i have the same yamaha water flushing system as you but someone recently told me that when you flush with fresh water it does not go round the engine as the thermostat does not open---- not sure if this is true--------enjoy your new engine
@donnywilcox
@donnywilcox 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ploughboy .. with the Yamaha 25HP EFI, the water does circulate around the engine head a. However it does not run round the waterpump so I cant run the engine as it flushes by this means. My dealer gave me this information and its also in the manual so I have no reason to disbelieve it. Once in a while I will flush in a bucker bur certainly not every time :-D

I got a ladies Jewelry ultra sonic cleaner at LIDL for £19.99 & I it cleans carb jets a treat, although it's not big enough for a complete carb. Regular boat use is the best policy as I'm sure Donny would testify !.

Been looking at a new Suzuki 20 hp 4 stroke. Currently have a Yamaha 25hp 2006 2 stroke. Would like upgrade to the lighter suzuki, and with it being 4 stroke will be quieter and have better fuel economy. Do you know anyone that has the suzuki 20 hp 4-stroke, and their experience with them? Thanks. 👍

Nice comparison Donny what prop are you running on the yam
@donnywilcox
@donnywilcox 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff..its just the standard 9and 7 eights x 11.5 yamaha prop. I have not used a rev counter as im not giving full throttle runs yet but took a guess and bbought the 9 and 7 eigths a 12 yamaha prop for the spare.
