I'm one of the lucky kids that watched Lawrence Welk practically till I was almost 20! And I loved it and looked forward to it, and we my Mom and Grandma took a special trip to Disneyland just to see the Semonski Sisters and it was worth the wait. I had a front roll seat! I wonder where they are now. I'm 64!!

My grandmother loved Lawrence Welk. She would dance with my grandfather. I lost my grandfather to Pancreatic cancer in 1992. My grandma was so lost without him. She died in 2004. Now my wife and I dance to the music on PBS. We are grandparents of Six!

My life growing up I can remember the tv being on when Lawrence Welk showed but never sat down to watch it. This video is the longest time I watched the Lawrence Welk show

In 1975 and 1976 I would race home to see the sisters on the show. I was 18 at the time. This is why Lawrence hired them. He is not stupid and he knew needed a young sister act to bring in a new audience. This was his way to get the next generation of fans. Lawrence had been looking for a sister act since the Lennon sisters left in 1968. If anyone wants the back story on how he found them let me know. They must have gotten intense training after being hired. A prior comment details their improvement from December 1974 to September 1975

This bings back a lot of memories watching Lawrence Welk with my parents and grandparents. This was actually the newer shows. I started watching in the 1960s. Still have quite a few vinyl albums my father had.

My mother's side of the family is almost entirely Polish [ There's a random Russian there someplace. ]. My Babcia probably would've appreciated this. Mum for her part couldn't stand Lawrence Welk but I've always loved him and his champagne music. It's good old-fashioned squeaky-clean entertainment [ except for "One Toke Over The Line" but we won't go there. ].

This was not the first time the semonski sisters did this song. They did this song on either the Christmas or New Years show in late 1974. This used to be on KZbin but it was removed. In late 1974 it seemed like they sang the song very loudly. There was a funny incident during the song. Lawrence allowed the studio audience to come and dance to the song. One guy came down and danced with Cissy and they had a crazy dance together. The song ended and Lawrence said hold it hold it and said to Cissy where did you find this guy. Cissy replied I don't know he just came out of the audience. The song started up again and they danced again

There is now a way to see the 1974 performance with the crazy Cissy dance. In the KZbin search box type in Lawrence welk shows 1974. When the list appears hit the new years eve show. You will notice how much better the semonski sisters sing the song now. They had 8 months of training from the December 1974 show to the September 1975 show.

Agree, and why did Mr. Welk fired these girls in 1977?
@janetbelanger57572 ай бұрын
@Miriam-cc7zd they were not fired. The oldest left to pursue a songwriting career. The remaining five stayed on until the first two shows of the 1977 season. They left after that. My guess is that they realized a lifetime career as singers did not appeal to them so they decided to have normal lives.

Does anyone have a video or clip of the semonski sisters singing windy by the association. I thought that this was one of their better songs. If you have them singing this song please post it. If not can you tell me which Lawrence welk show they did the song on.

What The Semonski Sisters did not know, we had secretly replaced the Welk Orchestra with The Jimmy Castor Bunch, "Hey Leroy". Watch as we turn The Lawrence Welk Show into Soul Train.
