Almadine Red with cream leather. Gorgeous combination. Our Friend paid $ 220.00 ( aud )1991 for his 560 sel in this colour. His Wife had a matching 560 Sl Roadster. Incredible Vehicles. Both Benz Outlived him and his successive Wives.

Had this exact model in Australia 1989. ( Smoke Silver ) full options. Ticket price minus Government charges. $ 120,000.00. ( aud ) Outlasted a Rolls Royce and a Ferrari.( Both Rubbish ) We loved her more than some Family members. After 1992 Accountants and Greenies hijacked Daimler Benz and spawned the worst cars imaginable. Karl Benz would be turning in his Grave.

It sounds like you've had some incredible vehicles! It would be nice to have an older Ferrari in the garage (308 or 288GTO being my favourites). I think the W126 was one of the last truly well built Mercedes. Like you say - the accountants certainly had too much input in to the later series. People regardless of age a realising just how incredible older Benz ( pre 1992 ) are. Modern Benz lack that tactile Bank Vault feel. Our Family has experienced a Stable of high end cars over the years. W116 W123 W126 epitomises the Bruno Sacco designed " Glory Years' at Stuttgart/ Singelfinden. So sad what happened with German Auto manufacturing. 😢

The W126 (and W116 and W123) are incredibly well built vehicles which helps when maintaining them a wee bit further down the line. I've been pleasantly surprised when taking this one apart at just how impressive the construction is on these, even down to things like the exhaust heat shield which is 2-3 times thicker than the same item on any other vehicle I've worked on.
