If your saw has enough travel always cut flat steel and sheet metal vertically if at all possible for blade longevity. The idea is to have the minimum amount of metal touching the blade at any given time. Also, when using a chop saw, cut square tubing on one of its edges, not on one of its flat sides. And a bit of coolant never hurts when using a metal to metal action...but do not use coolant when cutting with fiber discs.

it's not all that hard, just be sure to have DRY electrodes, and the right amperage, ac buzz welder, or better a DC welder. converted my old lincoln 225 to dc with 300 amp bridge rectifier, and capacitors, oil-filled 250 volt ones. Also a microwave transformer, (the steel core, only)with 4 turns of welding wire, hooked in series with the electrode cable (+ one) ...welds very good....start with 6013 rods, and when you produce ok welds, use 7014 or 7018 for better strength . Good luck.

Can I ask why you're using filler rod for an inside angle weld? You do know that fusing the two pieces is much stronger when it's an inside or outside corner?

Bets on how long it takes him to shorten the handle ! :)
7 жыл бұрын
ScotsFurian I wanted it to be long. Can be tightened with less power.
@ScotsFurian
@ScotsFurian 7 жыл бұрын
Oh well thats your choice and right. I hope you find its operation user friendly, however i think the extra length will become irritating and will get in your way too much. If you want extra power then a pipe over a short handle is a good way to go as its easy to remove so its not, 'in your face' the whole time. Also i dont think the handle looks like its very strong so if any force were to be exerted on that handle it would likely bend. Please understand i recognise the work and skill put into building this vice, i can be over critical, but i only make the suggestion to shorten the handle as i believe that to be an improvement to the vice, Thats just my oppinion offcourse. Keep the videos coming im enjoying them ! :) You ever thought about making a lathe or better yet a milling machine !
7 жыл бұрын
ScotsFurian Thanks. I have actually been thinking about milling machine.
@ScotsFurian
@ScotsFurian 7 жыл бұрын
I was wanting to buy a small bench top mill but they seem overpriced compared to a good used Bridgeport but i dont have room for a mill that size. Have you been thinking about the desighn ? Or do you have plans ? I was thinking about copying the Dore Westbury design ! I think the castings could be fabricated but i lack a welder so... I would be interested in hearing your ideas on the subject. Especially if you have an idea on how to build a milling machine without castings or a welder !
7 жыл бұрын
ScotsFurian I have made some plans. Details are still missing. But, it will have many welds.

5 жыл бұрын
Ouch. Those are very usefull in every home. I lived in a very small apartment 15 years ago. I still had one, i made some small woodworks on the balcony.. also i had removed feets from my ironing board, to save some space. I stored it on top of the closet, and mounted to my worktable when needed. 😊 See.. very usefull to have foldable worktable in every home. 😂
