This video is doubly sympathetic, so to speak: the very friendly author exudes charm, no question about that, but also the recognizable basic attitude: "very good results CAN be received with LITTLE money" is wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing and I wish you continued success. Thank you Estee, I have just received a 4x Microscope Objective from China & it looks great. I just can't believe that 5 x 8mm fills a full frame sensor, beautiful. I am very impressed with you & your ideas on KZbin.

Lovely video. I am glad to see that it worked out for you. Do you have a video where you go through each items that you used from the camera to the objective lens, and also how you mounted on that vice? I would love to see all those items with specific names so that I can look them up also and use your video as a tutorial.

Thank you. I am going trough each item in this video :) I am currently away from home so I couldn't make a video showing how I attach the parts one by one. But it is simple just follow the order in which I am mentioning them in the video. I have a photo of the setup, a closeup of the bellows on the vice, and all the links of the products on my blog here - esteewhite.com/my-micro-setup-dslr-camera-microscope-objective-cheap-macro-setup/

Hiya! I have been wondering of getting either microscope objective adapter to my Canon DSLR or perhaps a ultra macro lens like Venus Laowa 25 mm f2.8 that can do 2.5-5x magnification. Have you considered ultra macro lenses? :)
@EsteeWhitePhotography
@EsteeWhitePhotography Жыл бұрын
Yes :) I was actually very interested in few lenses by Laowa... but their pricing is a bit high for me... So I found an alternative and I have to review it at some point - I have the Mitakon Zhongyi 20mm f/2 4.5x Super Macro Lens, manual focus, I'm pretty happy with it :)

Hi Estee, thanks for making this video. I have been shooting macro for a few years now and would like to delve into the world of micro photography. My set up is nearly complete but I am just waiting for the microscope objective lens. I'm wondering how I'm going to set the aperture on my camera with such a set up?
@EsteeWhitePhotography
@EsteeWhitePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching :) The way I tend to do it is - I mount a regular lens - I set the aperture, and then I turn off the camera and I detach the lens... Then I switch to the adapters and MO. Usually I go for almost as wide as the aperture can go, to avoid doing this too many times. There might be other ways, bit I have not done it in a while so I cannot remember right now.

Super cool and inspiring. Went onto your website and the bug faces are amazing! Did you give them something to smoke? hehe I must try this set up because my Macro tubes with EF 50mm and 22mm lens are not sharp or magnified enough for the tiny diamonds I want to photo. Its such a great way without a camera lens!!! Bravo!

I like using Zerene Stacker for larger stacks of 50+ frames, for smaller stacks ( under 50 frames ) photoshop and affinity photo work fine too

Hi - I wondered why you use an extension tube and not just the bellow ?!.... you said that you had to reach 260mm of distance from objektiv to camera ... BUT the 4x objektiv needs only 160mm ( like it is written on the lens ) - Am I wrong ?
@EsteeWhitePhotography
@EsteeWhitePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
I said that it needs at least 160mm 5:27. The bellows is only 140mm... That is why I used the M42 extension tube - not only that it gives me more tan the extra 20mm that I need, it also gives me more flexibility so I can decide how much I want to extend the bellows.

I don't understand why attaching a camera to a microscope won't enable focus stacking. Surely, you can use the microscope's fine focusing knob to change the plane that is in focus.
@EsteeWhitePhotography
@EsteeWhitePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
In order to do successful focus stacking you need some type of a focusing rail. In my experience the so called fine focusing knob on the microscope cannot substitute a rail. Most focusing rails have a way of indicating how much your focus moves each time you change the focal point. This way you can make sure that each move, each step, is equal and also that there are no areas that got accidentally skipped. Focusing rail stops are usually measured in μm because in most cases the focal change needs to be very slight, it is better to have areas over lapping other than not covered. That means that the rail gives you super fine control and you need it because accidentally skipping even the tiniest areas can potentially ruin your stack. I rather have that precise control and not relay only on my vision. In my opinion a microscope is unnecessary in a focus stacking setup and it only gets in the way.

@@EsteeWhitePhotography Great reply. Many thanks for your time and effort! Having surprising difficulty buying a reasonably pried 4X PLAN objective here in the UK.Lots of USA ones, but taxes and postage render them too expensive. Recommended ones are all no longer available. Just bought a cheap new ebay one claiming to be PLAN, but its a con or an error - no PLAN lettering on any part of the body, so its being returned. Keep attacking, as they say!

I know what you mean, I bought my first MO while I was in Bulgaria and I was using ebay.co.uk, I had to do a bit of research. I was also able to get one from wish.com. I actually ended up having 3 of the same 4x Plan microscope objectives by amscope because on my second order from ebay I did select the 10x but the seller sent me a 4x anyways ;) If I was in Bulgaria right now I would have offered to send you one of mine... But I am in the States and I don't have any microscope objectives here with me... best of luck, hope you find a good one

Next time can u just show a video of the stuff itself as its more useful than pictures and a video of your face. Nothing wrong with your face just its not what you’re talking about so its not very useful in this case. Much better to point camera at the setup and physically walk us through the work so we may understand better
@EsteeWhitePhotography
@EsteeWhitePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Ok first things first - at 10:47 I am saying that I do not have the physical setup next to me - I added this part just in case, even though most ppl figured it out pretty quickly, since I am not showing the setup and also - I am speaking in past tense. Secondly, I am sorry but as someone who watched only a small part of just ONE of my many videos, you are really in no position to give me an advice for 'next time'. It is more than obvious that for the purpose of making a video there is nothing easier or better than just garbing my setup, going through all the physical parts and showing them in camera - just like I have done in most of my videos - kzbin.info/www/bejne/epCuhoCNo9Ole5I, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXu0pGiMeKtlbKc&, kzbin.info/www/bejne/habIo4WGmap9e6s&, kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnPRdnmYmMStjM0. If instead, I spent all the extra time to search for the relevant photos in my archive, and searched for matching photos on google, and basically did all that extra to put the video together - well yeah, there was a reason for it 🙂 Next time - watch the whole video if you insist on leaving a comment 👍
