In defense of Rainbow Dash's design... a short skirt and athletic shorts are actually an amazing combo if you're trying to be active but still need that fashion aspect they wanted for the dolls! Did they fail on pretty much all other fronts, including being fashionable? Yes. but that ONE thing is actually not that bad

It's also called a skort. I think the colors and stripe on the skirt part was unnecessary. I think it should have been a slightly tattered skirt with some basket ball shorts underneath.

skorts were super popular in the early to mid 2010s. Most of the fashion choices for the EGs were based on fashion trends at the time. Were they good fashion trends though? No. Absolutely not. But it's not like it was a baseless decision, just one that the designers thought would've appealed to kids and tweens at the time.

The way you drew their faces feels so nostalgic. I swear I remember vividly watching a show that had that style of faces back in the 2010s, but I can't remember any specific details. It just feels like something nostalgic. You did such a good job, and I just overall like how the designs turned out so much better. The clothes you gave them actually fit them, and I love the coloring and shading you did for all of them. Just an amazing job overall, I can't wait to see the video with the rest of the redesigns!!

I always found Celestia and Luna's EG designs off putting for some reason. So seeing a redesign of them would be awesome! Other than that I'd have to say Applejack, BigMac and probably derpy, would be my other choices! Loved the video and these awesome designs!

I agree. Luna’s was super off putting. I understand with Hasbro just wanting to lighten the colors so it’s pleasing to fit with the other colors. But with Luna it felt so weird. She went from a dark blue to a pastel blue. It feels so wrong 😭

These are so lovely! As an appreciator of Cottagecore vibes, Fluttershy was my favorite, the less vibrant but more earthy colors were a good choice, but Rainbow's YIIK style and Rarity's 50's vibes were also very well done!

Abut the skirt short thing,it might be a thing that only high schools do if they have a gym/Pe kit they have made specifically for the school.(I’m from the uk and my high school had it and it was meant for ALL SPORTS EVEN IN WINTER)

I actually thought Rainbow Dash was one of the better designs of the EQG. The skirt and short combo are called skorts. I assume they did boots for a pony hoove silhouette.

It was made to be a kids show, so....yeah their clothes are going to be simple and obviously they're going to market the dolls. I love the designs, but i feel like everyone ive watched was expecting it to align with adult show designs.

THEY'RE SO GOOD!!!! I love them all so much. You nailed the vibe(s) perfectly! I'd love to see a part 2! Once more, Sunset Shimmer would be awesome. I can't wait to buy stickers of these!!! I've always been a fan of long hair Rainbow Dash, with a ponytail. Short hair just doesn't suit her as well imo so I'm super glad you kept it long! Love the embroidered design of Flutter's cutie marks and her dress is so gorgeous. On Rarity, for one I see you referenced "The Other Side" Rarity short which, fun fact, has both the best colour combo outfit for her (your reference!) and my least favourite outfit, being the carousel one lol. The brown she wore in that "hip" outfit from Rainbow Rocks looked surprisingly good on her too, but yeah gosh if they don't love blue haha. For two, I LOVE the CM collar. It fits so well with her and the rest of the outfit! They all look spectacular❤!! Also yeah, the movies can be silly and plot holes/inch resting design choices are there, but they're still so good and have so much underlying, just, awesomeness. I'm an over-analyst and adore Equestria Girls/Sunset Shimmer so I could go on and on about what they did right, wrong, how things are realistic, character specifics-- yeah okay you get the idea XD Once more, as I said when I first subscribed I believe, so glad I found you because your art is so beautiful and ejakwkdowkkdosoe /pos I also enjoy your commentary, it's very interesting, as well as your characters! Keep being awesome and I'll see you at the next video/community post!

I’m so happy to see people wanted to see a Rarity redesign so much!!! She’s my favorite pony from the mane 6- but anytime I ask other people who they’re favorite is they NEVER say Rarity- glad to see other people like her as much as I do 🥰 Either that or they REALLY don’t like her Equestria Girls Design which is… understandable 😅

I think the main reasons why Equestria Girls existed is because while the TV show was doing well and it was cultivating it’s own fanbase online, it was kinda failing at the thing it was originally made for (selling toys to young girls) and that probably has more to do with the fact that during G4, the ponies had become less “horse-like” in appearance, so girls who liked horses were less inclined to buy them, and a large portion of MLP’s fanbase at the time were adult men who had no use for a pony doll with brushable hair or a castle playset, so Hasbro, seeing the thing that WAS selling at the time (Monster High, Bratz, etc.) made their own version to try and get back a piece of the toy market they had lost.

I don't mind the og designs. By which I mean: after Sunset Shimmer has been redeemed and Ponyville Twi is no longer in the picture 😅 Like Rainbow doesn't look great in the skirt. Which is why I prefer her wearing the pants or leggings with the rainbow lightning 😊

considering the 'choices' they made for these character designs, you gotta consider what were the fashion trends in the 2010s that influenced those choices. As a tween in the early 2010s, bright colors, weird layering and boots were all the rage. Skorts were especially popular, and the bright, obnoxious colors would've appealed to younger children more. Also, I think the boots were supposed to represent equestrian riding boots or general cowboy boots. Y'know, considering they're based on horses.

I like how you gave variety their hair! I also hated how they copy pasted the mane six’s hairstyles on to the eg versions. As ponies, those hairstyles worked because they were supposed to look like stylized horse manes. But on humans, they just looked bad

I love what you did with every girl! They are beautiful! And I share your opinion regarding the fact that they have put a skirt on Rainbow Dash, even for sports. Even since I was a child it seemed meaningless, something out of her personality, not to say that my Rainbow Dash took off her skirt and used as pants what she had as a stocking wrist (she was a Rainbow rocks and her style did not see it very rocker).

Totally! I’m going to try to approach each girl with a different mindset, like maybe Twilight leaning towards Dark academia fashion, and Pinkie with a mix of Decora and Y2k? (Not sure yet) I’m also definitely approaching it with a more young adult/ maybe college student vibe instead of high school age because that was always weird to me.

Okay, as Equestria Girls redesigns, I feel as though these feel "off", I don't really know how to explain. I think it's because of the high school setting that these new designs almost out of place. That being said, I love these designs, these are what the cast would look like as humans, 100%. Something I remember about the original series was that it was about a group of unlikely friends, so them having them that wear outfits that clash with the others style fits perfectly. I can't wait to see how everyone else turns out.

The designs you made work very well for the pony characters cause they are adults but in Equestria girls they are teens. And while I can see your Rainbow Dash being a teen I can't say the same for Fluttershy and Rarity
