Thomas got me into the hobby and it was my Granda's purchase of a Flying Scotsman model in the early 90s that made me fall in love with all things LNER. So happy I found your channel
@LNER_Steam3 жыл бұрын
Ahh thank you very much. Flying Scotsman is definitely a gateway drug into the LNER eh! I'm sure you won't be disappointed by the array of LNER locos you'll see on this channel.

@@LNER_Steam We have many locos in common. The periods I have tried to limit myself to are 1923-1939 then 1956-68. But there are exceptions like the Stirling Single 😂 Also I think the Gresley A1/A3 are the most beautiful machines ever created by human hands
@LNER_Steam3 жыл бұрын
@@mckinneyc1000 Ahh you lucky guy - I didn't manage to snag a Stirling Single haha. Always on the lookout of course. But I do have to agree - there is nothing quite like an A1/A3. They're just quintessential steam locomotives to me

Haha, I feel like I'm looking in a mirror almost. Got into modelling due to the same little blue tank engine, got quite a large liking for all things LNER and have wanted to model something with a GCR theme. Only difference is that you've got a lot more space that I have XD. I'm really looking forward to seeing your progress on this layout and how it further develops and seeing more videos on here. A thought; The planned raised section with the carriage shed, have you considered adding a junction in the hidden area and a 5th track that climbs up to it, then instead of a carriage shed adding a small branch terminus? This could give your branch trains a destination for when they leave the bay platform.
@LNER_Steam3 жыл бұрын
I have considered this but it would be quite a task as it’s a pretty solid wall between those two sections. But anything is possible! And like I mentioned - my plans are likely to adapt as I go! 😄 great suggestion I must say!

Hi Ashley, Coming from 'Neville Grove' to discover your work. Great layout in the making and your future plans look convincing. Rather urban scenes than rural landscape. A challenge but you could use forced perspectives to add some drama and depth in the scenes. Some greenery - a few grown trees - will contribute too. Tunnel entrances can be interesting as an architectural element. Question of finding the right balance and proportions. I'm curious to see your layout evolve and grow into a nice piece of art - for it is a creation - more than just running trains. So I wish you plenty of fun and good inspiration and look forward to your next video. Cheers from France, Filip

Hi Filip! Thank you for your inspiring comment! Definitely wanted to go for a more urban scene so I’m glad that that has translated well. @LNER_Steam3 жыл бұрын
Oh sweet! I wondered if there would be anyone familiar with that area that might see this video - that's awesome! Of course the line from Northolt Junction to Ashendon Junction/ Aylesbury was originally the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line with the LNER taking over the GCR part of the coalition later on so there is an interesting crossover there between our two chosen regions.

Hi this looks like a fun layout with good operational potential especially with 4 tracks. Also good for just train watching while having a cuppa. I wouldn't worry about ballasting until you're settled (well as much as you can be) with the track plan and it's thoroughly tested. Are the points motorized or going to be? My grandfather was an ex BR engineer with a passion for LNER. I have one of his many 5" live steam locos as a display piece now, B1 Springbok.

Excellent video just subscribed! I don’t know how many people here in the US that collect LNER steam locomotives but I am one of them I got five of them they are flying Scotsman mallard cock on the North tornado and quick silver I hope to add at least two more to the layout I hope they get either Bittern or sir Nigel Gresley The models of the A4 Pacific‘s very hard to get at least the ones I want to get!

@@LNER_Steam The first steam locomotive from the LNER that I saw up close and personal was the Dwight D Eisenhower at the national Railroad museum in Green bay I saw her twice once before she was sent back to the UK for Mallard’s 75th celebration and once after she came back the new paint that’s on her now is fantastic! I talked to a couple members at the museum and they said once she was retired it was still an operational condition I think personally that the Ike should have gone to the museum under steam for one last time it would’ve been awesome to see a A4 Pacific operating here in the US!
