I am a Tibetan, and I will be a monk too. Tibet is a Mahayana Buddhism Tantra, but we have to study the Theravada Buddhism too. In my impression, Cambodia is Hinayana Buddhism, but yesterday I watched some videos about the history of Cambodian Buddhism, and found that there are also stages of Mahayana Buddhism in Cambodian history. But I don't know whether there is still Mahayana Buddhism in Cambodia or pure Hinayana Buddhism.

Thank you very much for your comment. I believe most Cambodians practise Theravada Buddhism, there is still a small pocket of monks who practise Mahayana Buddhism as well. I was ordained into the Theravada Buddhism branch.

Before theravada buddhism arrived in Cambodia, Khmer people followed as hinduism as mahayana buddhism.

How long was the temporary ordination for, as a Buddhist monk?
@TovnaDavid3 жыл бұрын
It was nine days for me. Originally, I planned for 7 days as it is a common length for a temporary monkhood in Cambodia.

@@TovnaDavid thank you for kindly taking the time to answer my question 😊 Respect from Canada 🇨🇦 There is a Buddhist monastery that’s 3 hours from my home, called Gampo Abbey. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot, and has such a beautiful view of the ocean ❤️ I encourage you Tovna, to look up Gampo Abbey online 😊
I do the same few years ago in belgium, but i can’t talk in khmer, so my aunt was every time next to me, saying What i have to say but in phonetic. It was so hard
@TovnaDavid6 жыл бұрын
wow, really? they do that in belgium too!? that's amazing. thanks for sharing. it's so true that you said it was so hard. i can speak khmer but it's like learning another language. even though the words are written in khmer, the sound and the way they are pronounced are in an ancient language called pali. it is one of the proudest moments of my life!

Tovna David . Proudest for me too ! Always thought it was Sanskrit. I was a monk for a week because my mom passed away a few years ago... Im not very religious but my mom was so i really wanted to do it. We do have a very small temple so we had to ask 3 monks to come in Belgium from Cambodia

Is it wrong if a Muslim like me is friends with a monk and wants to be a monk like my brother
@TovnaDavid2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. To my knowledge, I don't think monks can be "friend" with anyone. However, you (as a monk) can associate yourself with other monks and non-monk people. It's not called a friendship. Also, I don't think there is a discrimination rule for a Muslim to become a monk. As long as you practise Buddhism to the fullest of your heart and mean it, I think it should be fine.
