One of my most treasured (hard to pick one) is the day I said goodbye to my grandfather. He had been terminally ill with cancer for a year or two and it was obvious to everyone that it was getting close to the end. Luckily he lived his last days on earth in his own home, surrounded by his family and wife of 50 years. At the time I was doing my 1 year of service in the armed forces, more specifically the air force. Now this is rather important since my grandfather fought against the Nazis during their occupation of Norway. I had at that moment completed boot camp and training and was about to enter active service. I had just recieved my blue air force beret and was wearing a parade uniform. (even think I had some medal on it for completing some mundane march or exercise) That was his last impression of me. Even though he was incapable of saying so due to being so weak and frail, it was obvious that he was very proud of me. It was time for us to leave because I had to get back to camp and the last thing I said to him was "Untill next time." He just smiled at me because we both knew there wouldnt be a next time. He passed away 5 days later. It's a moment that has stuck with me. It was a goodbye like goodbye's should be and I am still in awe of how that man met his own demise. With dignity and grace.

Had I to pick my most treasured memory, it would probably be a period of my life, pertaining to a particular event, when I was most miserable and distressed. At this period, things happened that few people get the woeful chance to experience like I did. It taught me things about the world, things about people, and things about myself. Even though I was completely down, I never felt so human, so pathetically human. My happiest memory was the first evening I spent with my pal at the house we bought. It was late spring, a hatch through the ceiling was shedding a strip of light from a lonely lightbulb, fighting the darkness of the of the basement we were standing in. Everything was either black in the shadow or white in the light, there was music on the radio, and in this segment of reality outside of time and space, we were realizing: this was our home now.

my most treasured memory is as a baby, understanding a conversation when I hadn't yet learned how to speak. People may say rubbish. But you cannot learn to speak unless you can first understand others speaking. I remember that point. I was a baby being passed by my mother to my grandmother to hold. I remember my mother saying that I am her child and she is the child of my grandmother. I understood exactly what she was saying. The thing I remember most was a feeling of guilt, as a baby. because I started to cry. Because my grandmother was alien to me, so my grandmother gave me back to my mum, saying he is getting a bit teasy. I as a baby understood the conversation and also felt guilt for wanting to be given back to my mother. I feel our emotions are in built from before birth. We naturally "feel".

Could you do an origin of saluting. One of my relatives claimed it originates from knights flipping up their visors at superiors but mabye you know more?
@saberint4 жыл бұрын
Itcame from Roman times... apparently. Knights flipped their visors to show their face to ensure no one was impersonating the knight.... then it changed to be a sign of respect. Then we used to doff our hat to an officer as a sign of respect, the hats became large and silly so we touched it instead. The UK’s forces salute differently apparently because the navy men used to have dirty hands to after a man saluted the queen with dirty hands she ordered that the navy should salute palm down... hope that helps!

I'd say the most important memory would probably have to be an important memory with the person who knows you best in life- the person who can best help you rebuild yourself. Make sure you're not a stranger to them, make sure it's a memory that shows you you trusted them, that you *can* trust them, and then through them (and your innate personality) rebuild who you are. perhaps you don't end up the same, but that's not necessarily bad.

@quwykxz4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, I've met too many people that were nurtured with the utmost care, love, and respect, and yet they turned out to be complete rubbish as human beings. And conversely, I know folks who were raised in the meanest of circumstances, by awful parents, who became exemplars of kindness and wholesomeness. In both cases, it was all due to them rejecting their nurture, or lack thereof , and embracing their nature, for better or worse.

@@quwykxz What you would consider loving care and respect don't actually translate to positive child outcomes. And if it is nature, their parents would have to be rubbish human beings. Good parenting is bedded in amoral aspects such as consistency, attention, liberal (allowing them to make mistakes, do dangerous things, injure themselves) and teaching them approaches to conflict by example. You can screw up royally as a parent and still be caring, loving and respectful. The big one out of the bat is that respect is earned, not given. Being respectful to awful behaviour is not a virtue.
