Caloy may be the golden boy and have all the frees in the world but EJ captured the heart of most Filipinos as a loving child to his parents, because that is what a Filipino is. It's a Pinoy culture.

I wasn't planning to finish the 40 minutes video but surprisngly, I did. He has this authenticity and rawness that you just had to listen. You can feel the truth and reality by the way he speaks and that made the audience be affected because in one point or another, it sounds like you, your life, your journey. Please don't compare him with Caloy. They live and had experiences different from each other and lets not dismiss what Caloy had brought to our country despite his personal family struggles. Saying so, doesn't make EJ or any other athletes less just because they didn't get the medal like Caloy. Sure a medal is a medal but appreciate all our athletes sacrifices because it was never easy to be a Filipino with the kind of gov't support that they are having. Celebrate all the Filipino athletes who choose to carry the flag.

This is a perfect example of honoring your mother and thy father... offering to the world that this is my Mom and Dad... I am here in this Beautiful challenging World because of my parents. ".their discipline on me is my key where i am now .(ironically, tje gymnast who got a medal, mentioning that my GF is the one who contribute to my mental health, much more that my GF contribute so much, and there is someone, in all interviews who said " I attribute my win because of the sacrifices of my GF because she arranged my schedule...not mentioning that he is in the world because of his parents.) Congratulations MILO that you never got wrong in choosing right person to be your brand ambassador, I saw EJ is so eloquent and man full of honor and good behavior, full of wisdom...Admirable, young man, go go go go EJ...❤❤❤ you are more than a medal...We are proud of you🙏🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰👏👏👏👏

I watched EJ when he was in the middle of a controversy about funding from a government agency which was supposed to be supporting him but instead giving EJ problems during his training! I was impressed how EJ handled the situation. Whether how hard he was affected or not... I may say after this interview, EJ is a smart grown up adult. His mother must be very proud of him!

He is my hero not caloy, he is so grounded and humble and super smart articulate, mabait, good looking, matangkad, he is refreshing and he loves his mom,and his dad and his family. plus he has a very lovely beautiful Gf,elegant din and classy, isang halimbawa. na pwede tularan ng mga aspiring athetes. Samantala yung isa his the opposite side. Sa halip maging humble and ending naging mayabang. Is not about mother na pagpapalaki sa bata talaga kasi kung maayos sa loob ng bahay pero kung nsa labas at napapalibutan ng mga bad influencer madadala nya sa pang araw2x. When he chose to stay as a filipino and fight for our flag, despite it making more sense to choose the easier way for him, makes him the true winner in our hearts as a people. He chose us instead of the medals he could have won bearing another flag eventhough it was so hard to stand and fight for the country whose officials that were suppose to take care of our athletes were doing their level best in playing sports politics and putting more load to the back of our poor athletes. Yung ipinaglaban mo kaming mga kababayan by choosing to remain as one of us is the fight that no medal, olympian or not can top off. We are proud of you EJ Obiena.

Irespeto mo din ang anak mo. Hindi yung ikaw lang ang gustong irespeto. Wag din magtanim ng sama ng loob ang magulang sa anak at kung ikaw ang mali, ikaw ang humingi ng tawad. Kayong mga magulang wag kayong mapride at masama ang ugali. Wag nyo galitin ang anak ninyo. At wag kayo magnakaw sa anak nyo para hindi magalit ang anak nyo sa inyo. I just love everything about EJ, especially his authenticity regarding his imperfect relationship with his parents. Aminado siyang nagkakataliwas sila ng mga opinyon minsan at nagagalit rin siya at nag-aaway silang mag-ina pero hindi nababago ng mga 'yun ang pagtingin niya sa mga parents niya. Inaacknowledge niya yung mga sakripisyo nila at ang pinanggagalingan ng mga pangaral at pagiging istrikto nila. He really is worthy of emulation. Hindi siya nagmamalinis. Nasa lugar ang self-confidence niya. Isa siyang atletang nagsusumikap at nag-iisip. Karapat-dapat talagang parangalan at idolohin ng mga kabataan.

No one could have given justice to this mother-son conversation but Tito Boy. His empathy is real without being indulgent. He asks the right questions and really listens to the answers. We appreciate EJ and his mom for sharing their truth no matter how painful it could be. Theirs was not a perfect relationship by any means nor was it easy especially when "winning" at elite level is the ultimate goal. But they never gave up on each other when times were tough ie injury, Covid, distance, scandal etc. which is what family is all about. Congrats Tito Boy for a wonderful conversation and we wish EJ more success for the future! Great role model for the next gen! ❤

If I were given a wish, I wish to be with my mother again. EJ is an example of a son who loves and respects his parents, particularly his mother. My mom and I have a love/hate relationship. I think it’s just the way it is. My respect for her remains always. This is how I honor God and I want to set an example to my son. In the future when he grows up it sticks with him even when we are fighting. What I want to hear as a mother is that my son was raised well. I care less for his material success but I wish for his dream to come true nevertheless. Knowing I raised a trustworthy, respectful and kind son is an achievement for me. EJ is an example of it. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Praying for more success.

Thank you for featuring EJ Obiena. He is an inspiring athlete that truly a country would be proud to be represented. Hes tall, respec table personality, articulate, full of wisdom , dignified,speaks with class, dresses well, educated and well grounded. He grew up with respectable and dignified parents. This is a true athlete who would be a great example to the young generation, adults too. Hope all the sponsors would be smart enough to choose the right person to endorse their products. Gold medals have zero value if the person has zero character, no wisdom and show very undignified behaviour in social media or disrespectful to family. Good luck to EJ obuena. mas lalo akong humanga ke ej after watching him in here. tsk si mommy rin, very humble and straightforward pero very careful din siya in choosing her words. they were very honest sa mga hurdles they have faced pero nanaig ang love kasi marespetong bata talaga si ej. matindi rin ang sakripisyo ng parents niya and kahanga hanga na both parents are athletes. me breeding and class ang batang ito at magandang role model talaga for the youth kasi maski anong nangyari, nanaig ang pagmamahal at respeto sa mga magulang niya. siya ang tunay na kampeon talaga, ang tunay na olympic gold medalist! no wonder, ej has captured millions of pinoys kasi napaka-eloquent and magalang tapos sincere. hindi lang siya pambansang boyfriend, napaka-smart pati bukod sa good-looking!

This the first time that I’ve watched this program because I’ve been reading a lot of good things about EJ. He makes us Filipinos proud. He has inner strength and character. He has conviction and integrity. He is well spoken . I believe Filipino sports and athletes can benefit from him as a role model and ambassador. Kudos to him and the parents for raising such a fine man.
