Once you get the bike started and you are nervous to shut it off, what you can do to try and restart it with the button, while you are riding at a comfortable speed, click the bike into neutral and then turn the bike off, while you are coasting, you can turn bike back on and try and push the button to start, if it does not start then you are at speed to jumpstart it without stopping

Hey buddy, nice one. Next time your battery is a bit flat, just disconnect all stuff you don't need. Access you fuse box and disconnect the lights first, they soak amperes, especially the headlight. Then switch off the GPS, you don' t need it while trying to start your motor...Batteries perform bad in the cold, especially when they are next to flat, so if the temperature is low, just disconnect the battery and warm it up in a warm place (better disconnect it the night before and bring it with you in your hotel room...). Little tricks that work....

Tomorrow I'm taking my Suzuki 1250 to the repair shop... she won't restart when hot, and a cold start is getting harder every day (it's summer here below the Equator). A kickstarter would have saved me from a bit of an embarassment today, when stopping to get groceries on my way home, and a not-insignificant chunk of my income repairing/replacing the starter motor right now (if she had a kickstarter I could delay the expensive repair until a more convenient time). One thing that just ocurred to me: are there motorcycles with kickstarters AND pressurized EFIs?

I think a proper adventure bike going off into remote areas with minimal support should always have a backup kickstarter. I think Itchyboots is on the right track with her 87 Yamaha 600 with kick and electric. After the wiring got cut by the would be thieves, the kickstarter saved the day until she could get the wiring replaced. I think the DR650 would be perfect if it had a backup kickstarter. Air-cooled and carb'ed no fuel pumps or ecu's. That's my Honda XR150 in the Philippines. Pity it's so small.

If you use a car to jump start your bike. The cars charging system is too big for your motorcycle. Connect the jumper cables to the car battery and the pos to your bike battery. Make sure the car is off. Engine not running. Connect the negative and try the starter. Once it starts disconnect the cables from the bike. Do not charge the bike battery using the cars charging system. It can burn out your battery is short order. A switched terminal block can help with all the stuff you have connected. Switched meaning the box senses when the bike is on and allows the accessories to operate.

My set up is a 1 meter 8 gauge extension for solar panels that have the battery tender on each end, opposite polarity....put the correct one on the battery, hang outside the side panel...put alligator clips on the cut end, leaving the original plug on other end. Connect the end to the battery tender end and clip to a battery to boost. The 8 gauge wire is heavy enough to support the amps. I also ordered an extra cable and left the ends on to connect from 1 bike to another to boost. Never have to remove the seat for a dead battery again. Garth

Minus 27 here in Hazelton B.C., Just finished watching the last of your posted videos I missed, actually the one where you go to Pemberton. I ran into your hour long video of trip to Alaska a few weeks back, where you mentioned you had videos of daily rides, I was very interested in the Telkwa pass so went back and found those, then over weeks watched the rest.. After that went back and watched from the beginning. Then looking at the list found this one you just put up. Being from Northern BC found you travels through our part of the country very interesting. I am 78 but started riding a dirt bike 5 years ago to explore the mountains here, then got a dual sport and a road licence. Enjoying the back roads, hill rock mud holes etc. too. You did miss some great country going through the Telkwa pass , by passing Hazelton. Your videos are excetional for just starting out, drones footage fantastic, carefull with that thing though. maybe you need a spare LOL.I just bought one to maybe use this summer for mountain trips. Just restored a Honda CT 90 with the Low range, Hope to do better on steep mine road that I have trouble with the dirt bike.. You did well with that tall heavily loaded bike on those bad section, good bike but heavy to pick up in those circumstances. I do watch Ichy Boots, if you where scard going through the border to Alaska, just wait till you get to the Middle east... One place I would not go... Keep riding, will be interesting, Is this like a 6 month a year adventure. I tell everyone I can about your channel.

Hey Eric, I think I saw your GPS being on even when the key was off. That draws battery... I don't know if your GPS unit has also internal battery, but it can be draining power even when your motorcycle is off. That might cause a problem. Another thing to keep in mind is that even if the kill switch stops the motor from running, in most cases the lights are still on... Safe travels man!

Worst thing you can do is holding that push start button forever like that. If it doesn’t start stop ✋ don’t keep holding the button you make it worse. Might be cold or not getting gas or it’s cold. If you leave accessories on etc it’s a tiny battery. Glad you got rolling.

You charge the batteries of your cameras, drones, cell phones via the motorcycle battery. Motorcycle batteries are small and too weak to handle the charging of so many other batteries for a long time. It's only a matter of time before it gets so weak that you'll have to change it, which can be a big problem when you're outside populated areas Rather, buy a motorcycle battery charger (I would recommend a smart charger) and when you are in the hotel, motel or whatever, recharge the motorcycle battery to extend its life. Smart chargers are small and do not take up much space. The basic equipment you should carry with you when you go on some trips is first aid, tow strap (or whatever you call it) battery cables for starting the engine from another vehicle, smart battery charger, portable tire compressor, tire repair kit, tire changing tools, additional motorcycle repair tools, some food and necessarily water. Only then think about cameras, drone, clothes, tent, etc. I learned this the hard way too, thinking it's a new bike, what could go wrong? Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, lesson learned!

It is a real pain to take all the luggage off when you want to get to the battery. I have installed on my KLX a 3 ft motorcycle charging cable with the SAE connector and dust cover. The end is just under the seat on the battery side of the bike. When at home I use it to connect the battery charger. When on the road it is a direct connection to my battery for heated clothing (I increased the fuse size). I also made up an SAE connector that I can use as "jumper cables" if needed if the battery dies on a trip...really handy.

Sounds like you've got a parasitic draw on the battery. You could try chasing it down with a multimeter but the quickest and most cost effective way is to just install a battery disconnect switch for when you're parked up. Your bike has struggled to start in older videos, get a decent battery and the voltage regulator is another thing to test if your having charge issues. Also manufacturers are cheaping out on consumables these days to keep the sticker price down. Batteries, brake pads, clutch packs, tyres, filtersm, light bulbs etc. get them changed out asap

I contacted a few items (gps, usb socket, extra head lights) directly to battery and the battery was dead next day with key already turned off. So I rerouted from battery to after key. That way when I turn off the key, it shuts down every thing.

Huh, I always used 1st to jump start on my Grom. Never thought 2nd or even 3rd might be better?

1st normally makes the wheel lock up when you dump the clutch, 2nd or 3rd lets it turn without that.

I love your wallet! I’ve been using the hair tie method for almost 10 years. Great minds think alike! Don’t know why it hasn’t caught on😂 you can add a victorinox Swiss card to it and always have a little multi tool.

Tenere (T7) is 459 lbs wet weight. Wondering why your battery after sitting for a day would discharge so much?

The KLX 300 has quite a large load capacity: 184kg/406lbs by manual according to some bloke on Reddit. That's ~700 lbs GVWR. I've been watching some videos about thermal overload on the charging system (mostly stator) when charging a dead battery. Yours wasn't completely flat it seems.

with all the accessories you're running (heated grips use a lot of juice) and video equipment charging you may need a stator with more output.

Disappointing that the battery only lasted a few months. A voltmeter is a good addition to any mcycle to keep tabs on battery health.

think you have more problems than just the battery. I've watched many of your videos, and in quite a few of them, the bike struggles with hesitant starting. All my bikes start instantly, without any hesitation.
