I drove a 78 model, it had a 350 Cummins, with a 9 speed. It was a good truck. Ford sure tried to compete with KW and Peterbuilt, but they just didn't sell well.

Watch the stack bracket s at the frame those tube brackets that hold the stacks just above the 6 bolts that tube will crack and the whole stack muffler and all will stick out the side ,,,I had two of these beautiful fords and both of those brackets cracked on both trucks ,,,that's a beautiful ride my man good luck with her you still have a million miles to go on that one ,,,,keep the SHINNY SIDE up

Outstanding looking rig, I tried buying an '88 model from the Kenworth dealer but the salesman was in a hurry to get home that day and was not interested in a sale, it had a 425 Cat with a 15 speed.............Ended up going to the International dealer and bought a 362 Cabover Pete.............But I always thought that CL 9000 was the best looking rig out there, when you can find one !!

I was a truck mechanic in a GMC dealership, Occasionally I would get a Ford to work on, and there was a world of difference between Fords and GMCs. The Fords were so much easier to work on because they were very well engineered, unlike the GMCs.

As far I know the special thing of the CL 9000 is its fully suspension cab. Other trucks this age don't have it.

It was optional, many had the solid mount cab. Still a good truck I drove a 78 350 Cummins 9 speed had a great heater even in 0 degree weather, it could keep you very comfortable.

Man that's a nice looking CL9000, and it doesn't have that characteristic lean that so many of them had when those under cab air bags weren't even. I'd be proud to show that one off, hope to run into you at some shows.

If I recall it would release tractor brakes only. I know what you're thinking. LOL We never used it. Had that blue one in the 79 CL 9000 I drove.

I NEVER GOT THAT FIGURED OUT EITHER, THE ONE I DROVE HAD A 290 CUMMINGS WITH A TEN SPEED EATON TRANNY WITH A 23 FOOT REEFER BOX. SHE WEIGHS 24, 500 LBS. THE 290 WAS A LITTLE UNDER POWERED.

It realeased both trailer and truck brakes. Had one on a cabover freightliner.

Uh no. The blue only sets and releases the tractor brakes. Red is only for the trailer and yellow will set both but only release tractor. Had one in a 94 Mack.

I love these Fords there's picture somewhere or me and my Dad when I was little standing next to one of these belonging to pastor Jimmy Swagart church back in the 80s and the HEB food stores in my area growing up would use the day cab version of these to supply the stores back in the 80s too
