This is one of the most constructive and informative KZbin videos I have seen in a long time. Thank you Tekky and Peter for opening up and presenting this in such a genuine heartfelt way.

Two things I've observed recently in my travels; there are plenty of gay couples out and about, and fewer people smoking cigarettes. Both really good things.

Yes! Just being able to see more gays around makes others more comfortable 😊😊

It's a really difficult experience in general but listening to Peter and Tekky's experiences are very comforting in the sense that it's nice to know that you're not alone, thanks for sharing ❤ Advice that I've heard from people is that try to be independent (financially, living situation etc) that way if things go south you have a contingency plan

Yes definitely! And each individual knows their situation best, personal safety should always be front of mind!

I’ve noticed when a gay kid who has feminine traits, especially strong feminine traits, parents and sometimes other adults that are family members will tell a male child how to sit, walk or not do things with their hands or arms not to do that and attempt to correct it. Heard this a lot with coming out stories. Peter said he was told about making expressions with his hands when playing the piano. Typical reaction it seems, more common than realized.

Sadly it is, there's expectations of how people should behave, when does it really matter? Hopefully more people will realise it doesn't matter and just let people be how they are - most importantly, just be kind where you can!

Yes, it happens to one of my cousins too and we're young back then so I couldn't say or defend him but I'm glad his mom is supportive but I don't know about his dad but so far I heard lately that he has a gf. I wanted to talk to him but we are in different country now, I just wish I could talk to him that it's okay and one day he can be open to talk to any of us.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and I'm glad you feel you can be your authentic selves. I remember the day as if it were yesterday when I came out to my (now late) mother, it was on her birthday back in 1993, I was 32. Her reaction was priceless. She said, "It is about bloody time you said something, here I was thinking you are not having any fun in life!" Of course, she knew all along, probably my participation in ballet, figure skating and a complete lack of (romantic) girlfriends in my life probably gave the game away. Some years later after I met my boyfriend from Đà Lạt, who is now my partner, my mother absolutely loved him and treated him like her own son; his parents treat me like their own son too.

When I was a child play female toys, my mom already know I am gay. But my father and his side relatives couldn’t believe that. After I came out, my father was so upset and locked me in the room about a month. I am afraid of Chinese family about telling my sexuality.

Thank you. How do you handle negative reactions? Are you reacting as an Australian or as an Asian?
@peterandtekky10 ай бұрын
In the context of family, reacting as an asian i would say, in the context of friends, as an australian. Dealing with negative comments, its very situational, if its family, often they can come around to it, so a bit more patience may be required, but with friends, if they dont accept, are they the type of people we want to be around? But its so situational and dependent on your personal circumstances - just know there’s a big amazing supportive community out here also, it sometimes just takes time to find them 🙂

What do u mean hoping they would drop you? 😮 as in it was a bad thing it didnt happen? 😢
@MrDominicBrant10 ай бұрын
It's very, very sad, but my parents were not good. I was hoping they'd drop me so I didn't have any reason to be associated with them. As it goes, they remained in contact but disowned everything about me unless it was something good - then they claimed the credit - awards, trophies, high grades, career. My then bf was hidden from the neighbours, family, church: 'He's not coming to your brother's wedding is he?' Thankfully my brother has always been perfect: 'Of course he's coming, he's with Dominic, why wouldn't he come?'@@peterandtekky
