Agreed. I heard that Essie has always had a wide brush in Europe, but not here in the US. I stopped buying them due to hating their skinny brush, now I love their wide paddle brush. Too bad it took so many years for the US to get any special treatment. Orly has a great brush too, but it was wider and better a couple years ago at their initial change into wide, now they are medium and inconsistent round cut.

okay this is going to be fun haha! 1) the gel thing - totally agree!! It took me a while to figure this out and I avoided buying anything that called itself gel, which of course meant normal lacquer too. They need to realize people are intentionally not buying them!! 2) I live on a small island so having a hard time finding stuff is the story of my life lol. 3) so agree on brushes. I'm a fan of the wide flat brush with the curved end, however I don't let it influence me either for purchase or for usage because if I did, I'd be too limited where I live. 5) re: no-name polishes, I am such a weirdo but I literally make up names for those. I put my original name in my spreadsheet. And I secretly kind of have fun coming up with them. My biggest pet peeve is bottles that are ridiculously too big or weird shaped. China Glaze and OPI bottles actually fall into this category for me. I only have two CG and one OPI because of how massive the bottles are. There's a local brand where I live that does 16 mL bottles that are significantly more slimline and elegant than CG which only hold 14 mL. CG doesn't even fit in my acrylic rack.

You are spot on with these. Seems like the nail polish community is in agreement with all of these peeves. I didn't know about Sinful Colors not being available anymore. I usually see them in Walmart, but I only go to Walmart every once in a while. I also see them in Harmon Face Values. I do know there was one color I was never able to find, but wanted. It was a blueberry color with little black glitters. Right now, I'm having trouble finding the new Sally Hansen toppers where I live. I tried to get them on Amazon, but one of them will take 2-3 months to ship. Then went to Ulta's website, but of course would have to pay shipping. Then went to CVS's site, and they have them listed for an extra dollar each, and again, shipping. So I'm just going to keep looking. I will add to the list (and this is not the fault of the nail polish companies, but the fault of the companies that carry them, like Target or Ulta, etc.): Often, when they ship, they will just throw the nail polish bottles in a box with maybe one air pillow. It's a miracle that they make it to their destinations in tact. And often, they don't. Regarding the brushes, I have definitely complained to Zoya about the Z-Wide brushes being prohibitively expensive. I'm a collector, and when they have big sales, I stock up. A lot. But, if I wanted to add the Z-Wide brushes so that each bottle would have a Z-Wide brush (which are NOT on sale), it completely defeats the purpose of buying the polishes on sale, because I just can't afford them. And that last "summer collection" was a pure cop out. Regarding the finishes that don't show up on the nail, I even mentioned that in one of the videos I made. Why even bother putting it in??? No names makes me crazy too. Color Club did this recently with their collections sold in TJ Maxx and all those stores. And Born Pretty does it too. Really messes up my spreadsheets! The only other complaint I have, that I can think of right now, is the height of the bottles. But it's a little bit of a two-sided opinion. I just bought some polishes from Dollar General from Maybelline. I LOVE the bottles!! In fact, I love them so much that that's part of the main reason I bought them. BUT, when it comes to storage, they are too tall to store in the bins I have! My bins are four inches tall. That should be tall enough to store all my polishes. I searched far and wide for four inch tall bins. And finding drawers that are four inches tall is equally difficult sometimes. That's why everyone buys the Helmers and Alex drawers. Most polish bottles will fit within four inches. But every once in a while, there is a company that will make it's bottles just a little too tall to fit in with my storage.

Those Maybelline bottles are nice. I had them but got rid of them because of the issue with storage.

The disappearing shimmer thing used to really bother me, but I’ve been coming to the realization that it seems to really improve the creme formula. Like it goes on smoother and lasts a bit longer. But maybe I’m just lying to myself I don’t know 😆 but yeah there’s still the disappointment of thinking it’s a shimmer when it’s not. Some brands are terrible at expectation management. Preach it! I share all of these pet peeves but interestingly, I think I've been more open to polishes that I can see my nail line with. Orly is one of those brands that I can't see in person in Canada and it stresses me out a little. If anybody knows of a retailer, I'd be super happy to know! On top of that, Essie's Willow In the Wind is a US exclusive and it's the only one I wanted from that collection so badly. One day, I'll have it, I swear on it. And lastly, speaking of Seche Vite, I weirdly liked the smell but oh boy, did I ever have problems with shrinking. Top coats that won't dry are the reason I only trust indie/boutique brand top coats. I do have a mini of OPI RapiDry that I'm interested in trying out though so we'll see how that goes. An unspoken by Janixa (but probably shared) pet peeve is base coats that are supposed to be long-lasting but peel right off of my nails. Base coats are finicky with my nails even though I prep with acetone.

I used to have the same shrinking problem with Seche Vite (which is the only top coat I ever use unless I want matte) but I switched to using a wide flat brush to apply it and I swear it stopped happening. I can't think of anything else I did differently. The original brush wasn't my favorite and I had an empty bottle of glossy top coat by a different brand with a great brush so I just started putting my Seche Vite refill into that bottle and the shrinking just... stopped. I have no other explanation and it makes no sense because obviously the shrinking is a chemical thing, but maybe I'm getting a more complete application with the better brush and so while it still probably shrinks some, it's less noticeable?

Agree with all of these except for the brush one...I've always preferred the thinner brushes as I feel I get more control over application and I'm less likely to flood my cuticles. I know I'm in the minority on that one though and being sad that they are all getting replaced 😅 Ugh, the unavailability and "exclusives" from Essie are really annoying! I live in Belgium (Europe) so we often only get 6 of a 9-piece collection if at all. I remember something went seriously wrong with the Mosaic on Down colour when it got released here as it was so thick and dried out it was like old glue (unworkable) and this was from a legit retailer...luckily I got my hands on a proper one later. I'm wondering if European regulations (which are very strict) may have limits in place on some pigments or ingredients and that's why Essie can't always give us the same collections as in the US? 🤔 Although, as you said, OPI seem to manage 🤷♀️

Alas I am one of those plebs who doesn't mind a little nail line since I love me some jellies, ahaha. I also love to wear toppers on their own too! Granted my nails are almost always very short and I usually have almost no nail line to speak of so...I think if I could actually grow out my nails more I'd might be singing a different tune lol. Big preach on the brush pet peeve too...skinny brushes are great for nail art but that's about it imo. Zoya does needs to get with the times!

Lol yes it’s different when the nail line is very apparent.

Talk about hard to get. There are so many that I would love but living in England you quite often have to, either spend more on shipping than On the polishes themselves or they don't ship to England. Drives me nuts.

I’m a big OPI fan from Australia, they do not release their whole collection here, some are whole collections but some are only 8 or 9 polishes, like from the latest Power of Hue collection there are only 8 polishes that I can find, the best ones are missing, yellow, green, orange and dark purple. Same with the celebration collection of 2021, I couldn’t find ready, fete go, turn bright after sunset, ring in the blue year, and now since the pandemic I can’t even get them shipped from the US , this is so annoying and frustrating.

I HATE top coats that shrink my polish!!! Seche Vite Gel effect top coat (blue bottle) is notorious for shrinking my polish. And I have a backup 🤦🏽♀️ I’ve been loving the Glisten n glow top coat.

I never have an issue with shrinkage. I believe it’s in part an environment issue.

G&G top coat became thick too fast. They sell a thinner, which means they know their product isn't the best. I'm so annoyed to pay for the top coat that is thick before I get half way through the bottle.
@04ngarcia2 жыл бұрын
@@madiaautrey5899 I’ve got a fresh bottle so I don’t have that problem yet, but I can tell it’s gonna get thick on me pretty soon. My favorite top coat got discontinued so I’m just trying to find a replacement for it. It the was original Butter London Hardwear PD Quick Topcoat.

Once upon a time, the best place to go for nail polish--that I knew of, anyway--in downtown Manhattan (NYC) was Harmon Face Values, owned by Bed Bath & Beyond. BB&B is in big financial trouble. So, it has closed its Harmon in the Chelsea neighborhood--just as my nail polish obsession has erupted. Aaaaargh!

Random pet peeve is not being able to find a LEGIT red "neon" polish!! They're always too "orange" for me. I have tried to make my own by adding some red alcohol ink to a neon orange but it just makes it darker and ruins the "neon-ness" of the polish. For example Color Club's "Cherry Iceeee" would have been perfect HOWEVER when you apply it to your nail, it looks more "orange" than red. That color is like a chameleon. One lighting it looks more red and another it looks more orange. However, 9/10 it looks orange. Aggravating LOL! I want that BRIGHT, neon RED. Not orange, not red orange - RED, lol.

I agree with EVERY single word of this video LOL! However, with SOME polishes sometimes I do see them as "gel-like" which is SORT OF better than just "gel" but yes this can be annoying to those who are NOT hard core polish fans who don't know the differences like some of us do, lol. And YAAAAS to the shimmer in the bottle but not on the nail!!! Uuuugh LOL! If the Dollar store ones you're referring to is LA Colors, some DO have names but yes I have seen just numbers. AMEN to crappy top coats! And I looooove Jellies!! :P

@@naillacquertherapy Ooooh yes I have heard of them! I like some of their colors but noticed they have no names. So odd since I am used to polishes having a name. OPI has the best names for their polishes. Always funny and clever!

I live in Europe and there are multiple brands here that only put a number on the bottle but on their websites they have the names. It's annoying!! However for me it is worth it to look up the numbers and write down the names in my spreadsheet, once I have them there I tend to remember them but it would be so much more convenient if they would just put them on the bottle!

Absolutely none of the above bothers me. Sure, Zoya should listen and their nail polish isn’t as great as their price point. I agree with what others said about the topcoat shrinking…but whatever. I don’t care if they want to say “gel” or “gel-like”…I don’t understand how it’s so hard to grasp that gel needs the bottle it does. I don’t know, I was never confused about that. Ya wanna know what bugs me?? Brands that in the year 2022 are still testing on animals. And KZbinrs that will point out if a brand is cruelty-free and/or Vegan but won’t verbally put it out there that the brand still makes a conscious effort to be douchy. While I watch tons of different KZbinrs swatch, if they’re swatching a brand that is still mean to animals, I won’t watch that video. I just cannot get on board with that. It’s the year 2022! Come on, do better! And like OPI - they’ve PROVEN they know better and they’re all “F doing better”. UGH! Testing on animals for vanity of all things, just no. And I love my makeup and polish but not enough to blind or kill someone. And I say “someone” because like my cat, that bunny is someone. I have a bunny and she is someone, not something. Georgia would be horrified if I put mascara in her eye…she’d be all “B, stick that shit in your own eye!” There’s my rant for ya!! 💗
