What a kind family to take in two young men from foreign countries to help them out! I do have this pet peeve though. I see it time and time again on this show and others, but it frustrates me that there seems to be this ingrained thing in the minds of many Korean parents that their children should only learn English from teachers that come from mainly America or Canada. Steban and Edward know great English even if they don’t come from a major English speaking country. In college, I had a friend who wanted to teach English in Korea but she was turned down basically because she wasn’t white (she’s Asian American) and over there, the ideal thing is to have a White English teacher, because that makes it more believable that their English is “authentic”. I love many things about Korea and Korean culture, but I do hope that misconceptions like this will be corrected in the future. Anyways, Korea is slowly becoming more multicultural and Korean culture/pop culture is spreading throughout the globe, so I have faith that things will change for the better in that aspect!

Ah yes, I have heard they reject Korean-Americans too because they weren’t white but then again I do know of a Korean-American who did teach English in Korea. From my understanding, the schools didn’t want a person who looked Korean teaching English cause they thought it would confuse the kids (the kids would feel more compelled to speak in their native tongue if they saw an Asian teacher).I also once met a British English teacher living a abroad and he told me they would only hire him if he dropped the British accent so Korea specifically looks for the American-English accent to teach their society.

It's probably because he had unrealistic expectations for the housing price. Of course it depends on the location but apartments that you can buy with 100,000 $ are nearly impossible to find. Most of them are wayy more expensive, that's why they thought of it as funny since the price he suggested is far away from reality 😊

I didn't know what to expect when they introduced two guys as a couple who described each other as "soulmates" with lovey dovey hearts going up. I know that Koreans don't have much of a LGBTQ culture, never mind recognition of such, so I thought these guys might be a gay couple pretending to be straight while getting their kicks at putting a Korean audience on.
