Regan makes me a little mad. I understand his need to concentrate on his passion but he's being selfish. He either needs to get a part time job or teach martial arts part time and get another job and contribute financially. His putting all the financial burden on his wife and it's a terrible thing to do. No one's telling him to stop pursuing his dreams but he's gotta find a way to compromise.

This guy definitely gives Wing chun a bad name! wtf. How could he attract students by seeing the way he performs. He's got no vigour or agility in his movements. Wing chun may not be the most effective martial art, nor the best one. Yet, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful martial art that has ever existed. It is gentle, calm, peaceful and ables you to control your body and mind. Although it doesn't have deadly kicks like taekwondo, the punch could be lethal for a true practitioner. Moreover, about 70% of Wing chun's stances and postures are focused on DEFENSE. In most cases, It allows you only to attack the opponents after observing their offensive flaws.

I love this show so much, but I always wonder if these couples talk before getting married? Like 'where do you want to live?' 'Do we have the resources to live?' shit doesn't get solved or magically work out just because you get married. Also, this dude is from Australia! He admitted the martial arts studio barely breaks even with the handful of students he has. Selfish, if he refuses to contribute financially, he should not have married and had a child. I think the best part of this episode were the comments. Where do they find these guys?! Obviously this is a TV show. Obviously this couple's dynamic is not representative of all such couples. However, it's the kind of show that makes for an interesting story and so we see it repeated over and over again. Korean girl meets foreigner boy. They fall in love and get married. Foreigner boy always, always, has a personality fault that's softened for viewers through careful editing. Girl is practical and devoted. Foreigner boy doesn't get why everyone's mad at him. Korean girl and family try to understand foreigner boy from another culture. Moral of the story: They love each other, they're still together, and things will work out. This is going to sound mean, but do these relationships exist because of the cultural differences? Korean girl and white boy are so different that they don't see the minefield they're stepping into. Would/Could Regan have found such a wonderful, devoted wife in his home country? A local girl who sees no charm in Regan's laziness. Especially if she's not enamored with the color of his skin? Whereas in Korea Regan sticks out like a sore thumb and is seen as a commodity. "Look at me girls! I'm dating a white guy!" I don't know. But many of the couples on My Neighbor Charles have this dynamic. Dear Regan, you managed to find a wonderful loving wife, you have adorable kids, but you're living off of her and her family. Where's the honor in that? Think of her parents. Show some respect for the people responsible for helping to make your wife the person she is today. Take care of your wife. That's the least that you could do. If following your dreams makes your family suffer it's wrong.

An individual who pursue excellence in art, sport or in any performing art field requires more than 10 years of intensive study and training before reaching age 20 of one's physical prime. Chance of success diminishes after that.

chamcham123 I think marketing its a big problem because no one knows about his studio, and also he's a foreigner so people may be afraid of the language barrier, and also Wing Chun itself is not famous like taekwondo or ju jitsu or capoeira I feel bad for him, this is his passion but he's out of touch with the reality of living for a family, and his in laws don't like him I hope his studio does well because of this show

That's interesting because from what I've experienced there are WAY more Korean Female/Foreign Male couples than there are Korean Male/Foreign Female couples. My husband is Korean and I'm American; and while it's becoming more common it's still not easy to meet other couples like my husband and I. Online itself it's easier because there are groups specific to us, but in RL it's quite uncommon. On the other hand I've met a ton of Korean Female/Foreign Male couples online, in Korea and in the U.S. ---------------------------------------------- The stigma thing does hold some truth but in reality it's usually harder for a Korean male to marry a Non-Korean woman because of the value Korean families place on their sons, especially in regards to family lineage. Even more so if he's a first or only son. Thankfully my husband's family is very open-minded and although he's an only son they were never against our relationship. Within Korea itself intercultural marriage on a whole is becoming more accepted for both daughters and sons.

+KL I disagree. There is actually a lot more Korean Male/Foreign Female couples. It is not as noticeable because the women are also Asian. They are usually mainly form China, the Philippines or Vietnam. They are also not as visible because these couples are usually in the rural areas of Korea not in the main cities.There is actually only a relatively small number that the women are from western countries and also the majority of these couples are found in the main cities. One of the reasons for the larger Korean Male/Asian Female couples is because in the countrysides, the poor farmers are getting older and because there are not many Korean women willing to marry them (because they are poor or farmers or much older), they turn to mail order brides. And many of these brides are not in good situations and also looking for a way out.
