FOR THOSE WHO ARE WONDERING. Whether you agree or disagree… SC STATE LAW SAYS… A dog that has entered another person’s land without permission shall not be hurt, maimed or killed simply because the dog has entered the property. ALSO… SC House Bill H4611 will make it illegal for a person to intentionally remove or destroy an electronic tracking collar or other electronic device placed on a dog by its owner. This law is already in place in other states. SC has a large traditional dog hunting population and it is not uncommon for dogs to wander onto other properties when hunting. Respectable hunters equip their dogs with collars that have the owner’s contact information. Most hunters now equip their dogs with bright orange radio controlled GPS tracking collars.

Grew up in GA, on a farm. Deer dogs there. They always got scattered in a hunt, and they always went to the nearest farm house if they got lost. They always had collars and tags with owners name and phone number. It was common to have to catch them, secure them, and call the owners to come get them. Everyone did that. It would have never occurred to any of us to hurt a hunting dog.

Responsible hunting dog owners notify surrounding neighbors that they are hunting with dogs in the area & ask adjoining neighbors if they have a problem with you hunting in their area. Some people do not own hunting dogs nor do they hunt or own dogs. Dogs ( most of them)will chase any wildlife they encounter on the ground.) common sense & respecting the neighbors can prevent horrible incidents like this from happening.

All these hunters out their they've put so much time and money into their dogs im talking possibly thousands of dollars they are not going to let No one just up and kill their dogs I know I would not let that happen to mine. Many years ago, I was a member of Quail Unlimited, we went to a WMA and planted food plots. This was supervised by the local DNR officers. That Fall, me and a buddy came back to hunt one of those plot. We were walking down one of the sides of this plot and the dogs dipped into the trees off to the side. Next thing we know we heard chickens, then a gun shot. We immediately started trying to recall our dogs. My dog came in, my buddies didn't. On the other side of that tree line was a house and a yard full of fighting chickens. We found my buddies German Shorthair dead no where near the chickens and a teen age girl with a 12ga. She was calling the Sheriff which was her uncle. DNR new there was a possible problem with that plot site and told us to work there.

In my area and others that I frequent, I've only heard of a few cases of malicious killing of dogs, pets or sporting dogs. But what i do witness and hear of , every year without fail, is problems with dog hunters and their trespassing. As land parcels get smaller over time, some hunting traditions will ultimately become unacceptable to most people. We all, will need to adjust accordingly. It is never acceptable to trespass. Especially when almost all people have a modern cellphone with GPS.

People are literally crazy these days. My neighbor had an ACD that ran into our yard and bit my son twice. We know ACD’s have a nipping problem but it was already 7 years old and should have been trained by this point. They never use a leash and their dogs never have tags. I told them it was ok because we know how ACD’s are. Their dogs would run in our yard quite a bit and even use it as a bathroom. Always was nice about it. The one time one of my dogs runs into their yard, they wanted to call the President! My dog ran after a squirrel and only got a couple steps before I called out to her and she came right back, no aggression. They were very upset for no reason. I reminded them of their untrained and untagged dogs and if they want to be like that I’ll do what needs to be done next time your illegal dogs come in my yard. Very ignorant people. They drink a lot too. They also keep their dogs in their yard religiously now!

Some of these comments are not justified. As the video tells about the past 30 years or so the neighbors were all in agreement with one another with everyone was allowed to hunt on this man’s property. Does that mean you can hunt on his and he cannot hunt on yours? regardless, the dogs were killed on yet another neighbor’s property and not his own so what was the justification for killing the dogs? Regardless, why were the collars destroyed? As soon as I heard the gun shots and no barking I would have been running to my dogs and most likely would have been able to retaliate to the person responsible. If he was also the same one that killed dogs years ago then he has an issue that goes deeper than dogs. The investigation may turn up other dirty deeds done by this asshole. I would love to meet a nice guy like this while I was hunting

A neighbor of mine shot my pooch with an air rifle twenty five years ago, not fatal. When i asked him about it he proudly stated he did shoot him and he would do it again if the opportunity presented itself. The guy was in his late thirties or early forties I was maybe thirty. I was so taken aback by his brazenness that I informed him that if he were to do that an ass kicking would soon follow. Suffice to say I got a visit from a deputy within fifteen minutes whom I informed that it was illegal to shoot any animal except a game animal in season or a dog that was attacking. The deputy asked me if I threatened the guy and I stated that I only gave him an ultimatum. When I told my wife about it she was mad at me and proceeded to walk over to the guy’s house and apologize for what I had said to him. During the course of their conversation he told her that I was a bully and a loose cannon. When she returned home I invited her to pack her shit and hit the bricks. In retrospect my dog had gotten out of the back yard through an open gate that my son had left open and he was in the guy’s yard however, I had once saw his big pretty German shepherd in my yard just being a dog and thought nothing of it.

As a landowner it is very frustrating when the hunter just lets his dog run through your property, especially when your bow hunting and they are coyote hunting. Dogs running through your property and watch the deer run out due to the dogs. Happens to me all the time. So we land owners do get frustrated when conservation says they can not do anything about.

Sorry for everyone involved. My mother and I use to coonhunt until she got too old to be able too handle it. Since her passing I would love to get back into it but stories like this is becoming a regular thing no matter where a person lives. Dog hunters are usually very respectful of neighboring property, because a animal cant read posted signs sometimes they go onto posted land. Most hunters will quickly catch their dogs once their dogs enters another persons property, yea there is a few who are clowns. But in most states if not all hunters are allowed to gather their dogs on another persons land. In my state you just cant have a gun when doing so. In your case it hust sounds like you have a mean spirted person as a neighbor and you surely dont want him back anywhere on your land. Try and not punish all your neighbors for what one idiot done but if you do hang posted signs its understandable. Before anyone tries to claim well maybe the dogs were aggressive toward the guy, I dont think I have every seen a hunting dog aggressive toward another person because in most cases theyre use to different hunters handling them.
