Talking about Ghibli series, how could I miss out the most iconic Ghibli's soundtrack?
Joe Hisaishi's orchestral arrangement for My Neighbor Totoro theme song totally brings to life the whimsical and enchanting world of the story. It is so upbeat and beautiful at the same time.
I was really thrilled to see the maestro putting the arrangement into a piano solo version.
And to be honest, this is probably the hardest recording I ever made for the Ghibli series. There are quite a number of tricky parts that require certain techniques to execute them well.
A piano is never enough to deliver a full orchestral arrangement after all.
What makes it more difficult is the short preparation span for me to put this together before my vacation.
Furthermore, I just freshly received my new Macbook Pro (M2 Pro) last week and has been working around to get used to the new recording + video editing system.
(Thanks to the new device, less worry for audio clipping, you can finally enjoy an authentic 4K video now!)
In short, it had been a super intensive week for me, but I am super proud that I managed to make it happen! And I can finally get a good break now :)

畢竟這是影響超越一個時代的偉大作品啊。
每次看見毛茸茸的龍貓和貓巴士都覺得很療愈，它們似乎承載了所有人童年美好的幻想；
也捍衛著我們心中最純潔良善的那一塊。
這一部作品比自己想象中耗時耗力，也由於準備時間比平時更短，簡直是限時大挑戰。
很開心自己能如期完成，感謝一直在身邊給予我各種支持的人們。

The one advantage that solo piano has over an orchestra is to highlight on specific elements at will. You can still play bombastically (the more virtuosic skill you have, the easier, even if not to the orchestral level), but you could also shift to gentle, giddy, and warming passages with much more refined clarity as you demonstrated at 2:00. I'm diving more into arranging bombastic orchestral arrangements on piano and initially thought the same: What can I do to capture the power and layers of the orchestral arrangement? In asking myself that, it simply becomes a question of how accurately and often I can create three-hand passages, or even four-hands, and slam down with ff dynamics. From a theoretical and casual pianist skill limit, we as solo pianists hit a ceiling far below what orchestras can do. In order to justify why the track should even be covered on piano is to focus on the clarity I mentioned in the first paragraph. Tonal shifts, smooth transition, a refined sound that bypasses the need for unity with many instruments...whereas an orchestra takes you on a magnificent journey, the solo piano should manifest your own internalized world based off the perception of music (your interpretation) and draw the listener in. That is the mark of a good artist to me and you cover those elements with your playing at a consistently good level :)
