The ban talk reminded me of some forum years ago where a mod got _really_ mad at me for saying that a temporary ban is really just a suspension and not really a ban

Imagine spending countless weeks speed running the same sections over and over and over again because you keep getting screwed by a bad framerule on 8-2 and have to start all over from the beginning again. And again and again. And again. The prospect of playing through the same sections You've already done 250 times over just to get to the one section you're having trouble with will drive anyone mad. This is playing on an NES with no savestates. Obviously. But someone will still probable tell me to use them.

the signal blending two pixels together with different IRQ related crashes tells me your PPU has gone. It's a very common failure.

Dang. I was hoping it was a simple filter cap failure. Also a very common failure mode. Especially in old electronics. Although, it's not impossible to replace the PPU. Just cannabilize a non-functioning NES that has a working PPU. Just gotta use a heat gun to liberate it. Though soldering the chip in without shorting anything would take more than beginner skill, I figure if he has a friend or knows someone who repairs consoles, they could help. Good eye.

Does anyone else read the aforementioned PPU comment and whisper “pew-pew-Pew” under their breath over and over again? Or just me?

Considering your NES’s huge total uptime, I’d say it might be worth doing a full recap as well as a 72-pin cleanup and of course cleaning of the games with ISO if that’s not the way you usually clean your games/flash cart (no blowing!😊)

dang it sucks the NES is really old now, the one my dad had he gave to me doesn't want to read cartridges most of the time until I can finally get it to work. we need to enjoy our time with these consoles while we can.
@VoidHaloАй бұрын
Opening it up and checking for blown, burnt, leaking, or bulging capacitors wouldn't hurt. Most times a blown capacitor is the mode of failure in old electronics. The liquid electrolyte in the capacitor dries out over time. It could be that a capacitor is on its last legs if the issue is intermittent. If it is the issue, you can replace it with very basic soldering skills. Capacitors are literally a dime a dozen. It takes 5 seconds if you're comfortable soldering and know what value capacitor to use. Otherwise you can always find a friend who knows what he's doing. But you can still do a visual check just to see. Usually blown/bulging caps are pretty easy to spot. Best of luck, Mitch. Whatever the issue may be.

72 pin connector could be getting loose or 72 pin pads on motherboard need a cleaning. My best guess at the moment.

the game or system probably just needs a cleaning

I was gonna sell an old NES one time but the store didn't want them so I just threw it out. I even had a second one that I was actually using and then just threw out one day because I hadn't used it in a bit. Huge regret now.

Well if i would take your problem serious i would say that It might be a dying ram chip or there might be issues with the ppu chip. Or it might be just a simple problem to fix by cleaning the. contacts with alcohol. But apart from that. I didn’t knew you could beat smb the levels as well as beating all 8 worlds with it without doing the turtle shell kick live trick in level 1 of this game. Well i was finally able to beat that game through warpzones without that turtle shell kick live trick, but if i want to beat all worlds with it, then i definitely do need to perform such trick to get me dozens of lives. But man i do hate those normal levels were you do need to find the right patch to geg through, also since they don’t contain a halfway restart point like most other normal levels will have, phew🤣
