I've recently made some changes to my workflow that I use when collaborating with other Studio One User's via Dropbox. (Also applies to other cloud based sharing options). In this video, I demonstrate the basic's as well as give an explanation as to why I've made changes to how I approach "sharing" sessions.

Ooh, didn't know about the Ogg Vorbis export! This is useful since my band is working remotely. They're mostly Ableton Live users, so this'll be a good way to get them stems to write to

As long as Ableton Live supports the Ogg Vorbis format - then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. :) But the one thing to point out in this video is that Studio One supports the format natively - meaning it doesn't need to convert the files (to Wav) in order to play back in the timeline.. For me, that's the real benefit. :) Cheers, M

One correction is needed as well. Ogg is a container, Vorbis is the codec, and is is lossy, not lossless. I saw this and thought (based on your excellent past videos) that I was going to find something new and interesting, but I've been doing type of process this for well over a decade with MP3s. I'm just feeling disappointment... I'm sure many will find this useful, though, so thanks for uploading it. Can you fix your grammar in the description, too. Thanks ;)

Thank you for putting this together. One question, how do I send my song to google drive? I apologize for being a bit tech phobic.

So when tracks are added to this project that is shared via Dropbox, what happens if they use a virtual instrument or fx plugin I don't have? Do you have to just pre-agree on what to use that you both have? Would it be better to have them print a stem of the idea along with a dry track so I can try to recreate?

Great video bro. When I load a bus, vca or fx in the mixer it also shows up as a track in my tracklist. How can I stop this from happening?

Personally, I think this is a good thing! (Especially when you need to automate) But if you dont want this to happen, take a look at this video for more details on how to "disable" this feature: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHzPk2iYZq6iadE

I'm sorry, but Ogg Vorbis is a lossy file format, which is the reason for the quality slider (c.f. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorbis )

Have you considered using Splice.com? They recently setup beta cloud collaboration for Studio One.

Ian Johnson it was mentioned to me by someone else too... 🙂 I’ll check it out, but in the meantime, I’m happy with this workflow. Cheers, M

Marcus, have you tried the collaborative options from Splice when using Studio One?

No - I haven't. Are they decent?

Ummm did I hear right ? You can drop into their S1 recording session remotely ? Another question - Is FLAC not enough of a size reduction to be an option ?
@marcushuyskensmusic
@marcushuyskensmusic 4 жыл бұрын
KozmykJ - well yeah, sure. If I’ve shared that song folder with them - it syncs on my computer, and I can open it on my end (when they’re not working on it) Either one of us can make changes to the song file and it will sync on Dropbox.

KozmykJ Re: FLAC - I tried it, quickly - but it wasn’t “enough” of a difference. Ogg Vorbis was a big size difference. Also worth mentioning that I’ve never used either before.. so this was (is) new territory for me :)

@@marcushuyskensmusic Ah! I get it. Working with the same Shared music files; not Actually mixing over the Webz at his end in Real Time. A bit more orthodox. Still neat though ... 😉 Phew I thought I'd REALLY missed a function there ...

I would never use a lossy compression for collaboration, or what's the point of working in 96 KHz. Were FLAC files really too big? There are many cloud storage that give free space. 5 GB for OneDrive, 15 for Google Drive, and so forth. Should be way more than enough for a few concurrent projets.

The way I understand it. he's using the compressed files for transfer to the collaborator. I was assume that Markus would ask for .wav files back. The whole point is the recipient doesn't have enough space on Dropbox to receive large files. When you're going back the other way, the senders file limit is irrelevant - Markus clearly has enough space on his end to receive large files back. I work this way all of the time and have been using Dropbox for years. Another approach is to make the files downloadable via a shared weblink. Then the person receiving the files doesn't have to worry about the size limit.

@@terrygray7465 Hello! Thanks for straighten that out. He did prefaced that issue. Do you know of a good video on how to get the stems or tracks it in and out of DropBox? Thanks
