Mines due in 4 weeks. Your's is hardly a 29 in raw carbon? I'd be happy if they were ahead on that specific frame. I'm planning to mullet mine like Remy's. The plan is to have a 29 wheel and a 27 wheel ready to go for more trail or DH riding. What are your initial impressions?

@@HughMcGuire To begin with i got the base model spindrift with 29' wheels, a rockshox zeb ultimate and the rockshox super deluxe coil. I rode it a bit today so i didnt have time to set it up but it felt AMAZING. The frame looked really THICC and the bike kinda felt like a really fast tank. The coil shock was definitely a good choice as it absorbed everything while feeling like it didnt even go through 10cm of its travel. Il ride it for a week and (if i dont forget) ill let you know how its going!

Brands are finally realizing that sizing is relative. There's definitely the ride style aspect but there is also how your standing neutral and attack positions are on the bike. For my build I naturally am very forward on the bike even when squatting which makes many bikes feel short to me. The more you know about your riding position the better you can choose your bike size.

That's a very cool bike! After using SPD pedals for nearly 30 years, I recently switched to Times and absolutely love them. Now I wish I had switched a long time ago. Actually, the reach is not 451mm any more. Changing the rear wheel from 29 to 27,5 changes the head angel, and changing the fork to a one with more stroke also changes the head angle. According to some quick calculations, you should have a head angle of around 63deg and reach of around 435mm. The stack should be a little bit bigger as well compared to the stock - 640mm. It will be really interesting to measure and see what parameters aqtually the bike has at this configuration.

Remy man, I would love for you to break down a PRO explanation of why geometry is so important. How should a bike fit, not just stance over the top tube. I love my bike but it just feels like my bike is to small in front length and makes it feel twitchy in high speed corners. With my seat in the riding position I feel like the front is to short. I know I'm probably not asking the right question/s but "geometry" is a big topic and I don't understand why it's so important and always changing?
@remymetailler
@remymetailler 3 жыл бұрын
Well because bikes progress. The current geometry are here to stay. I think on a M bike, 445 chain stay and 450 to 460 reach is becoming the norme and as ling as brands don t go crazy that should stay like that for a while.

With the talk of geometry, I'm kind of in a tough situation. I'm looking to build up a Commencal Supreme 29/27, and debating frame sizes. I'm around 1.66m (Probably 1.67/1.68m with shoes). Like you, I tend to look more at reach, wheelbase, and chainstay more than the recommended sizes. Commencal makes fairly big bikes and the size small has a 435mm reach, 448mm chainstay, and 1256mm wheelbase while the medium has a 455mm reach, 456mm chainstay, and 1290mm wheelbase. I like the chainstay and wheelbase of the small, but the reach I want a bit longer and I can do that with a 10mm offset headset. The problem is that the size small is impossible to find in stock, I was only able to find it on their canadian website in stock and it would be around $300USD more expensive, while I can get a medium right now. So, the question is, do I just deal with the longer wheelbase and chainstay for stability and get the medium, or would it be worth it to just spend the extra for the size small?

Why does running a 180mm fork counter the 27.5 at the rear? I get it raises the bb a little, but is that it?

It does allow you to be slightly higher BB than if you had a 170 but it makes the HA slacker. I chose that to fit my riding as best as I could.

@@remymetailler Many thanks for this video. It answers almost all of my questions regarding the mullet setup of my Tyee 29. 180mm on the the front is no option for me so I'm thinking of using offset bushings on the rear shock in order keep its original geometry. Did you consider this as an option and what are your thoughts on this?
@ManuelTilly

I am in full conflict and I defer to you because we are about the same size. It's been a while since I flashed on the Tyee and I plan to buy one in 27.5 for the player side but the site tells me that I am between two sizes. Medium or Small. I am 1m68 and 81 in leg length and I don't know which one to choose. On your video you indicate that you chose M for stability is that right? Do you think I'm going to find myself cramped on a Small. Or too player knowing that he already seems to be a player in Medium? Has the geometry really changed between 2021 and 2022? I know that the size of a bike remains very subjective for everyone but no one around me has one to test the beast. Thank you for your help. respect!

so you you basically increased the reach of the frame by 6mm (from stereo 170 i guess) and then effectively decreased it with a 35mm stem? i am in a similar situation, riding a stereo 140 with 438mm reach and 425mm chain stays and it feels to small for me (175cm). i ordered a tyee 29 with 451mm reach and 50mm steam but am unsure if should change the order to size m with 470 mm reach and a 35 mm steam because i have quite long monkey arms...
