My New Dogwood Baton Thinks He’s A Club!

Watch the last couple of minutes for the CLUBBING. Just yesterday, I converted my lightweight Black Cherry baton into a bow drill friction fire set and ignited a fire. As a baton, it just wasn’t hefty enough for the task. The perfect substitute was waiting me in my front yard, a dead Dogwood tree. Dogwood is known for its extreme hardness, weight, and durability. It should be the perfect replacement.
Watch as I craft a baton from Dogwood, create batonings, use those batonings to construct a log cabin fire lay, burn it to ashes, and then use those ashes in a fire roll. And what do you think I used to top board that fire roll???
But that’s not all. On a whim, I decided to try a durability test. Could this humble little baton go full on CLUB and smash a cinder block to pieces without breaking apart? You’ll want to see how this turned out.

I have a hiking stick from the heart of a Dogwood tree and that hiking stick is probably 35-40 years old. I retired it a few years ago but it has been through some rough terrain over the years. Dogwood is durable stuff 😎

@@DavidWestBgood2ppl initially yes , but that was probably 30-35 years ago so now it’s just a solid older hiking staff

I grew up on a farm, and every weekend we had some form of a BBQ. Naturally, us kids always used to play around with the fire, throwing twigs on the fire, and other shenanigans. The elders used to always tell us if you play with the fire in the daytime, you are going to wet your bed at night. Of course we just laughed at this fibbery, but everytime I watch your channel, I can't help but think about that story. If it was true, you would have a serious problem :-)

Fun Fact, the dogwood tree is Virginia's state tree, The dogwood flower is also the Virginia state flower. South Carolinas State vegetable is collard greens, you should make some collards on the hobo stove with a dogwood fire.

And to think that, in the recent past, I've discarded a number of (much smaller) branches that have died and been trimmed off from my two Dogwood Trees. I don't _want_ mine to die by any means, but I need to keep the limbs that die prematurely. I knew it was hard, but that's downright impressive!

I bow drilled Dogwood 10 years ago, finally got an ignition, but determined to never try again, so hard in both ways.

👍👍👍 Corona Saw, "Oh dear, we're having dog again .. my poor teeth 😫." Morakniv, "Your teeth!? You should see what a dogwood back rub does to my spine 😠." Lawn, "Welcome to the Club .. most times he builds pyramids and then burns them down, I get a haircut 🙄." Sorry David, I could not resist that .. 😏.
