Greet on-the-water review! Very helpful for this 69-year-old paddler who's been eyeing the Sky 10 for a couple of months now. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

Thank you for this. I’m looking into buying my own and haven’t seen many reviews. I’m 5’3” 115# and want a good performing yak I can easily handle myself.

You sound like you are around my size. I am also almost 65 and limited in the weight of a kayak i can handle to get in and out of my car myself. I love it more and more each time I use it.

What brand and model of the wheels do you have or recommend?

hi there! I have been happy with the ones i found on Amazon, and the ones at REI though i am sorry i cannot remember the brand. My fav are the small tubeless wheels that I also got at REI. They are the smallest lightest ones I have found and they work great with my sky 10 can can fit behind the seat if i want though i usually strap them to the back deck.

In 2 hours you could go around 6 miles? That would be good for what I need.

Yes. this Kayak usually goes 3 miles an hour. If I push myself I can do 4 miles an hour

All trained kayakers find a comfortable, paddling specific PFD and they wear it, always, because they know the risks that you underestimate. They also know to dress for immersion, which means, among other things, never to wear cotton, as cotton soaks up water and holds it next to your skin. Please don't make content giving advice to novice kayakers where you are paddling in a cotton shirt with no PFD. You mean well, but you're doing your viewers a disservice.

hi there. You are absolutely correct. I know this is no excuse, but this is a very calm river, I paddle right next to the shore, the water is about 70°, and I wear cotton purposefully in the summer, and I’ve been paddling this river for 30 years, nonetheless, you are absolutely correct that I should actually be wearing my PFD. I have the kind that buckles around my waist and I pull a rip cord and it inflate and it is right beside me on the seat. It is very very, very hot in North Carolina, and I always figure I am in more danger of heat stroke rather than anything that would require me to be wearing my PFD. However, while all that is true, what you said is absolutely correct and everyone should always wear a PFD, especially when paddling far from shore or in any kind of fast moving water.
