Lots of keyboards in this video. But just wanted to showcase and do a little review of my favorite plate material, Polypropylene or PP plate. This may or may not be replacing my vega pom plate but I need to do just a little more testing ;)

The way you explained your plate preference made me realized that I essentially have the exact same preference for plates as you. Love loud lower frequency sound, hate PC, and ends up hating every PC board i have gotten and had gotten a POM plate for every board that I have. Time to try out the PP plate.

@@TofuTypes Finally got the chance to build a board with it! Used the pp plate with the cloudline and damn, it does slap really well. Hard to compare to POM or PC though since it did not get either of those plates for the cloudline, but I noticed that there's a bit more bounce to the PP plate compared to the pom plate which is more of a soft flex.

I joined a groupbuy and bought an extra PP plate. There were mentions of warping, so hopefully I don't experience that. Great video!!

if you experience warping, the plate will straighten itself out when you install your switches and put it in the board, it's completely normal.

I really like metal plates due to the high picthed solid sound-profile it generates, and I don't really care about the softness of a keyboard.

The one I have is a tad bit too soft. I found it hard to install without a plate fork. So I’m currently sticking with my favourite config for now, gasket/o-ring mount with alu plate and long pole switches.

Is the combo of an aluminum plate and long pole switches a little harsh for you? When I use long poles and aluminum plate at first it sounds great, but after about an hour of straight typing it starts to hurt my hands a little bit. Maybe it's just me having weak hands or something idk. It would be great to hear your opinion.

@@quentin266 I can imagine it’d be so with cherry profile maybe, but I type with MT3 keycaps so maybe that offsets it a bit. But long pole switches are off different levels of bottom out strength, some are harsher than others. I’ve found that bcp’s are in a nice middle ground, but do keep in mind that springs can help mitigate that effect. Long springs are great with long pole switches.

@@quentin266 and don’t forget that this hobby is all about preference. If long poles don’t do it for you then that’s ok. It took a lot of experimentation to decide what I liked. I went from tactiles to regular linears, to progressive springs, and then long springs. I recommend that if you still want to experiment with long poles, try long springs with them (18-20mm), or two staged springs. Keep in mind that you should choose a slightly higher weight than your norm because the shorter travel would mean the actual weight you’re feeling is less than the rated spring weight since they’re rated at 4mm travel.

@@wanabdulhadi1268 Oh I see I've only tried cherry profile keycaps on that combo so that could definitely be why that it is harsh for me. I've heard some good things about mt3, but haven't gotten around to trying them yet. Currently the only profiles I've tried out are kat, sa, cherry, and oem. tbh I still have lots to explore in the hobby! So far I have bought 8 boards, and currently have 4 with me rn have sold the rest, but I still have lots to try out like full size keyboards. In my opinion it's what makes the hobby so great, it is hard to run out of things to do! (and don't even get me started with artisans)

PP is pretty bright sounding so it won't be too thocky, it might make it clackier in some instances

Well there's plenty of materials still easily possible. All with slight differences in acoustic abd resonant profiles... From my other money draining hobby, I'm wondering if PS or polystyrene is a viable option?

Since you've used POM extensively prior to PP, can I ask how's the typing feel on POM vs PP?

Pp is every so slightly softer, not to the point where it’s bouncy and fatiguing, but slightly less harsh when heavily bottoming out if that makes sense?

By any chance have you heard the Cream Sodas on the PP Plate for the Jane? I'm looking into building my Jane with some but I don't have any source material to hear what it may sound like. I know it's preference but just curious to see if anyone else has had it/could share their thoughts on that build.@@TofuTypes

Sounds great! I'll definitely have to get one of these for my mammoth 75 without flex cuts, since rn I only have a pc plate that also has flex cuts, which I'm not a fan of. I'm also in the process of getting an acrylic plate cut for one of my other boards which I'm looking forward to :D
