My heart goes out to you all. I am going to show my age now. Back in 1985 I can remember seeing a tractor baling in September using the split breaks to steer in the wet . The bales were then bagged as wrapping was new then. Good luck.😊

in 1985 we made our hay first week of September was rotten on bottom before even cut but all baled into small bales dry but rubbish ,then straight into harvest ,if it went in combine and straw came out other end we went ,although one afternoon it looked a bit wet in tank so I stopped and tested with mosture meter ,it was 40% decided to stop ,most went through drier twice some three times

Similar experience about 20 years or so ago, weather was awful all summer. I was wrapping bales, harvester and trailers struggled to travel in fields so most silage ended up being baled and wrapped. I worked 8 weeks straight without a day off, some of those weeks were 100+ hours. On one occasion I had to get towed INTO a field to wrap the bales 😅. Fun times!!!

To say that this year is challenging is an understatement. Even though it is so wet, you really have no choice but to follow the process through to the end and that in turn, then causes more problems by churning up the field. It can't be helped of course. That is where those bales forks on the front and rear, really came in useful in minimizing the inevitable damage. I really feel for you all - especially for my brother who is in the same situation as everyone else.

Jeez Tom, I remember trying to get siloing done near Grange over Sands in the nineties. Every year the rainfall seemed to increase. Sold up and moved to Canada in 2000. The few times I’ve been back the years since must have been drier because the people who bought the farm have generally managed to get done without marking the fields too badly. I guess you wouldn’t object to a drought year for a change?

I am living in Portugal in Alentejo central, where it's usually so hot that by July everything is barren (except for evergreen trees) and lots of fields still have a greenish hue instead of the sun bleeched gold.

It has been incredibly wet in the North UK this year. I live a couple of hours away from Tom and tbh we've literally only had a handful of days without rain in the last few months. Our local flood gates built for the once in a decade flooding we used to get, have been closed 5 times this year, with a 24 hr warning in place currently. Land won't drain if the ditches are full, the ditches are full because between the cuts in funding across government services and greedy water companies, our water courses are being neglected or treated as sewage dumps. Sorry for the negativity, it just is what it is. Tom is doing an incredible job despite what the world keeps throwing at him. Best wishes 💜
