6:50 The intention behind this kind of storage compartment is to protect your (extra) gear from theft. Not on the hiking trail, but in cities, at tourist attractions, where plenty of people stand crowded together. Stuff like lenses, a 2nd body, flashguns - not the camera you use in this moment. See e. g. LowePro Flipside.

That’s not what the designer said, but I’m sure it would be put to good use in that situation

I’m right handed too and I was 100% rightie. Since I broke my right shoulder a few years back I find that I use my left hand for a lot more than I used to 👍❤️

@S. M. I follow a wide range of topics, some are technical and education sites, others are just for fun - dixie is both :) Most people don't publish videos but once a week, and about 75 or so post content once a day. Some I download and watch later, some i fast forward through parts or watch at 1.5 speed. I stopped watching TV completely 24 years ago, so just YT for limited world news and events suits me better - more time for hiking :) Cheers S.M.!! 🍻

I always enjoy your information. This video was nor specific to me bc I don't carry all the camera gear. But you present the info well, both pros and cons. Excellent

I have this camera hiking bag too and never looked at another. Sure it might be a little large for day hikes, but I at least don’t have excessive amount of backpacks for every occasion. One bag for all! I don’t think this bag has a rain fly, but I can see that possibly being useful.

If you need to max out the storage to where the draw string is involved, Put a plate (eating) or a full sized hoodie over the top before pulling the draw.

When I use a water bladder I put it in a bag just like I do with my things in the main compartment of my pack in hopes it will also give me additional protection if the bladder should leak the water will be trapped in the bag.

I wonder if you could create an insulated outer bag from reflectix and flex-seal tape, to help keep your water from freezing. 🤔

I learned the hard way about 50 years ago never to trust "waterproof" packs. After sleeping in a soaking wet sleeping bag in close to freezing conditions I've used a pack liner (sometimes 2!) ever since.
@SimplySatisfiedSarah

And when you’re walking around with it open like that. You can buy a package of ear caps. And at least protect the outer limbs. It wouldn’t keep water or dirt from getting in all the crevices, but at least your Outerlands would stay clean for your next photographed.

Since I don't actually carry camera equipment, 40 liters is the size I use for a thru hike. With the load lifters and nice hip belts that could be good especially for women. Also wouldn't use the bladder for that purpose. :)

Ugh! Good all-around packs when filming are the toughest to find! So, thank you very much for this review! It's appreciated. I seem to have the most trouble finding one that straps in my tri-pod and has an external water bottle pouch. Adding poles to that just makes me feel like a one-man-band (only need those symbols between my knees! 😂). It seems no matter what pack I have, I need to take it off more often than I'd like. At one point, I used a sling back since it was easier to swing it around to get equipment in and out as needed, but the imbalance of weight on my shoulders made my back sore after a day of wearing it.
@Henning_Rech
@Henning_Rech Жыл бұрын
I used a LowePro sling bag too to carry some camera stuff while downhill skiing, and found it worked fine for me only until about 8 lbs, while wearing a lined jacket which distributes the load a bit. Thus ok for a photo bag with some extra stuff like sunscreen, a snack or a small water bottle, but not for a day hike, I agree. - Great for skiing also because you can swing it forward within a second when you enter the chairlift.
@SusanCatherine

@@Henning_Rech That's the best part of the sling--being able to swing it forward!

Wow! I can't believe you need 45 L for all your camera gear for a day hike. Would you mind sharing what's in your video kit these days?
@HomemadeWanderlust
@HomemadeWanderlust Жыл бұрын
It’s not that I necessarily NEED that much space, but 20L isn’t really enough. Even when I can fit the stuff I want to carry, the weight doesn’t carry well.

Seems like weight is your main concern in a pack, and you don't use the camera features of a photo bag. Seems like the wrong bag for your use, and a standard ul pack would better suit your need. This pack is basically that, but with camera specific features. The only materials that are waterproof are pvc, hypalon, urethane, etc. Everything else are just varying degrees of water resistant.

Rather stick with proven companies like Shimoda, Atlas and fstop...for smaller day packs Hill People Gear have THE best harness and you would just need to put a photography insert in for a great day pack.
