Looks like a great place mate. As you know moving is a royal pain. I broke my hand when I was moving 😁 just about settled now.

Good luck to you, we went to St ives a few weeks back trying to relive my youth as they say, sadly those days have long gone.. I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively I wished cornwall would of been like it used to be over 25 years ago Newquay was great, then it was slowly destroyed because it was turned into a party town.. I really wanted to visit Porthleven but a lot of people on line mentioned that it’s getting pricy…Outsiders are buying up everything then renting out at extortionate costs. With people who cannot afford to jet away this is quite sad.

Unfortunately this is the exact reason me and the partner now liv in the midlands. We could not physically afford to live in Cornwall anymore, with the low local wages and the hike in prices such as rented properties, house prices and even little things like going out for a meal….. it’s just not doable for locals. Such a shame. I know I’m not a local but my partner is and she misses her county so much. Unfortunately thanks to this inflation we do not know if we can move back. Thank you for watching the video 😊

I was lucky enough to grow up there and spend every summer jumping off the harbour walls. Mother still lives there and it’s out of my price range but one day I shall return to where my heart longs to be. Thank you for the stroll around the lev.

Welcome to my part of the world mate. Was in Porthleven last Sunday looking for a place to enjoy lunch.... forget it! Not a parking spot to be found. Great little village though and only 15 minutes from PZ. The housing situation here has reached crisis point especially for younger people and needs addressing somehow. As you may be aware some villages by the coast like Mousehole for example are ghost towns come winter time, really sad.

That’s class didn’t realise you were down this way !! And tell me about it. That’s why we were forced out of our rental property it’s a joke !!

Indeed, just as bad up here near Fowey, my children 18 and 28 can’t afford to rent let alone buy and they’re, as we are, Cornish born and bred … zero chance of Cornish kids being able to live in the villages they grew up in 😟😟😟
@odysseyxplore2 жыл бұрын
@@alliehunkin5298 I know it’s ridiculous. Obviously I’m not Cornish born and bred but my girlfriend is and it just doesn’t matter houses down here being snapped up by people from London etc. as a holiday home. It’s a joke
@Sidchasingclassiccars2 жыл бұрын
@@odysseyxplore Yep it defo needs some intervention asap. It's really unfair and wrong that someone who is born here later has to move elsewhere because of money talking. Perhaps a heavy tax on second home owners might deter some from profiteering as they have in Wales. Others would say it's a free market though so yeah a really thorny issue. 😢

Great video and glad you settled in well. Porthleven is a beautiful place. My friend’s in laws are the proprietors of The Atlantic. A very friendly inn and welcoming. They got married at that lovely church right on the corner. Gosh that’s criminal £850,000 for that? Certainly not worth it. Helston is nice too and has a fab tescos 😀

I knew I got it wrong 🤣🤣🤣. I knew it was one of the pubs !! Haha. Yes Helton and porthleven are lovely. Huge Tesco !! Both are still impossible to touch house price wise ?! It’s ridiculous

Watching the displacement of my ethnic group (the Cornish) by new newcomers is always depressing 😢
@odysseyxplore5 ай бұрын
My girlfriend is Cornish born and bread and so is her family. And most of them have now had to move away from Cornwall including myself. After living in and working for a Cornish company for 5 years it’s such a shame that we’ve been driven away
@cornishsea5 ай бұрын
@@odysseyxplore it's a weird thing, my ethnic group has owned Cornwall (being Cornish) for countless millennia, only to be displaced by outsiders within my fairly sort lifetime, Cornwall's one of the poorest regions in Western Europe, we can't compete with rich londoners. Plev's a class example 25 years ago, you could buy a fishermen's cottage for 30-40 grand, sameones are now 250-300 thousand 🫠 (Feels like I'm watching the ethnic cleansing and death of my ethnically)
@odysseyxplore5 ай бұрын
@@cornishsea I totally agree. That is why we’ve now had to vacate Cornwall as the house prices are shocking. I know I’m technically an “outsider” however I’m not one of this “rich folk” therefore that is why I’ve had to leave. It’s disgraceful as my girlfriend can’t even live in the place she grew up in and loves
@cornishsea5 ай бұрын
@odysseyxplore To be fair, I don't really have a problem with non-rich people moving down (though it does put house prices up 😅) it the rich second homeowners I can't stand, it's leading to ghost villages with no population for much of the year. My step grandparents were thrown out the cottage they lived for 50 years by a londoner, who then damaged the grade listed cottage with illegal home improvements (then said he hated the Cornish...)
@odysseyxplore5 ай бұрын
@@cornishsea I’ve seen this first hand. Where I used to work. We’d bump into plenty of people with the same story. And me and my girlfriend had the same issue with our landlord who was from Manchester. He kicked us out to turn the flat into a holiday home and every time we’ve been back to Cornwall and drove past. The flat is empty
