What a great video that gives me the incentive to finish my second net which I started about 15 years ago! The American black walnut and English ash strips are already cut and the Snakewood handle just needs taking down to the same thickness as the strips but wow is it hard to plane with my hand plane as the grain runs in every direction it can - still, nothing like a challenge. Interesting to see you routing the groove in the frame; as I only make a net for myself I think that instead of buying a cutter or two I'll stick to using a ground hacksaw blade in a scratch block. Anyway thanks for a really soothing 25 minutes, it's pity I can't smell the wood during the process but at least I don't have to wear the mask when I'm only watching.

Cheers and thanks so much! Glad it gives you the incentive to finish it off! Snakewood can be a pain for sure- I often leave mine with extra thickness and then put it through my drum sander or hit it with really coarse sandpaper to level as needed to avoid tear out. My first few nets I did just freehand the channel with a hack saw blade and then a thinner file to cut the groove, so that is a great idea for sure! I would draw on the line, then just indent it first with the back of the blade as a guideline, and then put some depth to it. You don't need to take it that deep if you are using a smaller diameter twine!

How about the “Big Dipper” for a name on that giant net? Nice work on those nets.

Nice mashup video! Love the mix of woodworking and fly fishing. A combo I'm working on as well. Nets are on the to do list for the time being. Love that steamer!

Great job cuz! I like the new shop. Overhead wood storage looks like a good way to maximize space.
