nice for a 4g63t swap, as for the carburetor I know of a few tricks and tips that might help you out, for the cold start issue on these trucks there is a wax pellet inside the auto choke mechanism which is more than likely what failed on the carburetor in your truck, and when they go bad they won't idle up right on cold starts, also if it feels low on power in the mid range there is a secondary air vacuum diaphragm on the back of the carburetor and if the rubber boot splits on the diaphragm you will notice a loss in power in the mid range because the secondary throttle plate.won't open when it should, and your truck will run rich, if you don't know when it was last done, it's a great idea to replace the fuel filter on the truck and do a basic tune up spark plugs cap rotor these trucks are vary reliable, I own an "88 Mighty Max SPX 4x4 model with the 2.6 engine but I have also worked on many of the G63B engines as well i someday plan to 4g63t swap mine.

My family & I used to own the older 1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup. Here's what we like about that pickup: 1) Easy & affordable maintenance. Mighty Max are simple in design & therefore easy to maintained. 2) Very Reliable. Especially in terms of carrying cargo. We do a lot of Home Improvement Projects & we needed a pickup that can carry cargo such as old demolished home stuff, to new home items like lumber & roof shingles. We don't need those gigantic GMC pickups to do all our Home Improvement Projects when our little Mighty Max can do as good as the GMCs. 3) Small Pickup better than Large Pickups. Especially our small pickup can parked at Compact Zones without a problem (large pickups usually encounter that issue of Compact Zone parking). It's a bummer our Mighty Max got totaled... A large tree branch fell on top of our Mighty Max during a very windy day when we parked it under a tree... We saw next day our Mighty Max got totaled by the large tree branch. R.I.P. Mighty Max (1986-1997). Our truck was actually still in excellent condition with no dings; if that tree branch didn't fall overnight, then we probably still have our Mighty Max in good hands in 2024 today.

That beater with a heater will keep going and going while all the other so called trucks die early on. These trucks truley lived up to there name. Dodge made a good investment putting there name on these tough ass little trucks. Your truck would have a decent amount more power if it had the 2.6.

I'm trying to buy one of these right now,. I've located one, but of course it's an automatic. I wanted a five speed. This one is a Macrocab, Mitsu's version of an extra cab. Pretty rare from what I hear. Have you had any problems with the auto trans?

Mitsubishi should jump on the small truck craze thats coming back and build a "mini truck" again. Nothing fancy, just a small truck with auto, or 5 speed with air and power steering. The rest we can add on our own. Gas prices are here to stay folks and having one of these trucks is a great gas sipper. I had a 1987, air auto but no P/S. Had it for 10 years and it ran great. Sold it to get a Nissan Hardbody with P/S.

Maybe you should tell your representative that, so they can get the EPA to change their regulations. The EPA requires vehicles to have a higher fuel economy the smaller their wheelbase is. A truck this size would need to reach such a high fuel economy that most manufacturers aren't interested in making.

How tall are you man? I’m looking to get a mini truck for pressure washing/daily driving and my brother has a VW rabbit pick up. I really dig the old Dodge ram 50/Mitsubishi mighty max but know nothing about them. My brother recommended that I get an extended cab ford ranger since I’m 6’3 and might find it hard fitting in single cabs. I have 3,000 and don’t want to spend anymore but okay with spending the full amount for a truck that won’t need a bunch of work. I want the cheapest, most reliable and fuel efficient. What years do you recommend and engine wise for the mighty maxes and what to look at when buying. Also as far as the Mazda/ford rangers what years and engines do you recommend?
@jackgrundy196
@jackgrundy196 11 ай бұрын
I’m 6’1 and it had to be one of the most comfortable trucks I have ever owned. If you get a mid to late 80s one like I have with a good carb adjustment you can get decent fuel mileage, with that being said if you want less of a headache trying to achieve good fuel mileage a newer model like from the mid to late 90s with fuel injection will be your better bet. Same goes with rangers/Mazda pickups. I’m an advocate for standard transmissions, I’ve never had an automatic that didn’t give me a headache every time it slightly had an issue
@kalebstout7673

@@jackgrundy196 thanks for the insight man! I REALLY don’t want an automatic, I have an automatic in my Cummins and that damn thing cost me almost 7,000 to be professionally rebuilt. That’s my power rig just want a little daily/work rig I’m looking for a 93-97 ford ranger, nissan hard body, doge ram 50, Mitsubishi mighty max or Mazda b series. What do you recommend as far as year and which do you not recommend if any of these. Manual and 4cylinder are a must, 4x4 would be cool but don’t need it being my Cummins is 4x4 and I figured these trucks are super light
@jackgrundy196
@jackgrundy196 10 ай бұрын
Any year of these trucks in my opinion is fine, as long as it’s 4 cylinder and manual. The 4x4 ones are a little more rare and pricier depending on where you live. I used mine as a daily for 2 years before I parked it to do an ls swap then forgot about it because I became so busy lol. I’d like to revive this channel and bring back some projects eventually.

Hey man, looking for advice here. When I accelerate black smoke comes from the exhaust and I was wondering if it was common in the might max and also what should I do about it?
@jackgrundy196
@jackgrundy196 2 жыл бұрын
Not so much common with the mighty max but common with carbureted engines that are adjusted wrong, sounds like it’s dumping too much fuel into the engine making it run rich. A carb adjustment to lean it out some should take the smoke right out of it when you’re pushing on the throttle.

@@jackgrundy196 update: took it to the shop, turns out it’s the airflow sensor and we can’t find any for the mighty max, I was just wondering where you order your parts from?? @jackgrundy196
@jackgrundy196 2 жыл бұрын
For something this old I would definitely try Rock Auto first before anything else. If you don’t have any luck with that you can try some forum groups or Facebook groups to see if anyone is parting one of these trucks out and maybe they can ship you a sensor. Thank you for the compliment! I wish you the best luck with the truck!
