I have a 1999 Gen 2 Dodge Ram 2500 with a cummins turbo diesel and she still runs like a champ. Known for the million mile motor. I suggest picking up a used diesel truck just for towing and keep your other truck as your daily.

You can get a weight distribution hitching system to keep the trailer and truck level. They’re super easy to install and do the job! I install them on travel trailers/campers for work but the concept is the same for a cargo trailer just with less weight needing to be distributed

Even though the tundra eats up gas, it will be more reliable than most of these other trucks, even diesels. Once something goes wrong with a diesel it gets very expensive. Add some towing airbags or a weight distribution hitch to the tundra and you won’t have much sag at all. I tow cars with my tundra all the time with no problems.
@109rfan1
@109rfan1 10 ай бұрын
not for nothing but your going to trust a harbor freight hitch with 200k worth of bikes. get a proper hitch and you may want to check out a load equalizing/antisway hitch. given your towing with a half ton it will greatly improve your towing experience. that couple will be stiff for a while. also get a safety pin or lock for that couple

I personally have had a 3.0 GMC Duramax and for your situation that would be PERFECT. 30mpg and 16-21mpg towing. Amazing. I currently have a F250 Diesel and that would be overkill for you. The Minimax is where its at!

It doesn’t look very off but with the truck squatting in the back, if you correct that with air bags or heavy duty suspension it would be more pronounced. Will tow better too and probably get better gas mileage. And trailer guys won’t make fun of you, don’t ask me how I know.

Being that I'm from Hawaii(island of Oahu), my very first 'real job' was driving for Fed Ex(one of the hardest driving manual labor jobs you can have; and I even have an old video on my channel about that job...haha). My second job was working with my uncle at the Post Office in downtown Honolulu and working at Louis Vuitton in Waikiki Beach at the same time(double jobs). This was way back well over 20 years ago ! Keep up the good work Fast D...

I have 2 diesel trucks, and i absolutely love them for everything i do. Fuel is more expensive and so is maintenance and repairs but you can make them fast and they will pull almost anything.
@nickolaslandon4640

I would recommend checking out some air bags for your truck. They will take away that squat you mentioned. That is a badass trailer though. You definitely don't need a diesel to tow it the amount you do.

I have the same size trailer and pull it with a 3.5 EcoBoost f150. You're not pulling enough weight to need a diesel, and my mileage is just as good as my buddy's diesel without the expensive maintenance. I would also invest in a B&W hitch. Super adjustable and heavy-duty.
@RadDadisRad
@RadDadisRad 10 ай бұрын
Get some supplemental rear airbags. It’ll help a lot. Also get a nice adjustable B&W hitch. The thing with airbags is you can put 80psi of air in the bags and then drop your tongue jack. Air down and drop your receiver out of the hitch. Same with hooking up the trailer. Back up to the trailer air up. Pivot the tongue jack then air it to where the truck rides at stock level.

nice rig get a 6 or 8 ft led light in the middle and thats all you will need also some will put one on each side at the floor level in case you need to work on something and to see the lock downs better my tundra has the tow package and it just has another gear in the trans it is six speed and lower gear ratio in the diffs but the gas sucks even in town easing around it also has trailer brake set up which I took off so if you need one the box that goes inside the truck and the wiring I will send this one to you if you want it I will never put it back in

the other awesome thing about those trailers is if u need to move house, no more paying a guy to move your stuff you got your own now. and 1 other thing in terms of interior lights i go for a 2 long lights that cover from back to front 1 long strip of light and put em in the roof comers, if you really want brightness, and not to worried about power consumption.

You don't necessarily need a 2500 or 3500 diesel like you used to. Nowadays dodge has the eco diesel 1500 and Chevy now has the 3 litre inline 6 Duramax that can tow plenty and get decent gas mileage still. It is funny using a Tundra Trd Pro to tow lmao too. Honestly as well if you didn't wanna spend the money get a moderately new so like the early 2000s to mid-2010s 1500 truck cause all together you're probably still towing less than 5k pounds altogether. Lots of newer half-ton trucks can handle that no problem. Also another option is to get 2500 gasser trucks too. At the end of the day I recommend just doing research and asking people if heavier trucks with gas engines have better gas mileage towing or not.
@sheldonbailey8857
@sheldonbailey8857 9 ай бұрын
That TRD is supposed to be pretty good for towing. I’m surprised it got such bad fuel mileage. Your tires play a lot in that but also may need a tune up on the spark plugs. Cold air intake. And even a tune will help your truck a lot

Do yourself a favor and get extra wheel bearings with the gease fitting on the spindles for the trailer and spare tires. Trust me, I burnt up a bearing which took out spindle in Georgia. Thank you for the content! We live in Lakeland area not far from Tampa. You should get a group ride here. I have a 2017 Tundra 4x4 and I pull a lot. I pull around 15- 20k lbs regularly. I do pull that with a gooseneck trailer. I also have a Dodge diesel. They still drop mpg as soon as you hook up to a trailer. Two years ago I pulled a trailer to Ohio hunting that weighed about 7k with the Tundra and averaged 9.8 mpg. This year we took my buddies 22 f250 diesel same trailer and averaged 12.8 mpg. For the additional 12k for the diesel motor and 70 cents more a gallon it doesn’t add up any longer. That’s apples to apples and that trip is 2100 miles round trip. I would recommend airbags for your Tundra and you will be surprised how much better it pulls and handles.

owner of a 2002 ford F.350 meaning i do not have to deal with DEF system and I will tell you right now its costly. I recently changed oil, oil filter and fuel filters and it ran me $548 and regular just oil and oil filter runs me 280 each month because its currently my daily driver/ work truck so i put about 3500 miles a month on it. but diesels (if taken care of) last longer and tow better for sure but with the weight of your bikes and trailer i would think a gas 3/4 ton with slightly beefed rear shocks would do fine.

I own a older diesel personally but with work i tow with diesels all the time. (Metal fabricator towing metal and projects all over) Ive towed with all three platforms, dodge, ford, and chevy. If your going with a newer truck you cant go wrong with any. If your going to travel and tow alot, its worth getting the diesel. Duramaxes (chevy) are great, but there fuel milage can suffer under load. Dodges tow really well due too the cummins engine, its more of a budget oriented choice, and if you do some turbo, tuning, and exhaust work you can get them to have really good gas milage as well (around 20mpg). Ford is my favorite, they tow extremely well, have the least issues in my experience. I will say they get 11mpg regardless of whether you are just driving it or towing 25k lbs. like i said before with brand new trucks, you cant go wrong with any of them. Pick what you like
