Today we're going to look at a tree puller, a front end loader- mounted device, which is designed to use hydraulics to pull up trees, shrubby plants, and grapevines BY THE ROOTS. There are many advantages to handling brush control that way and I now own this device.
First, when a tree puller is clamped around the tree or brush, you have control of it. If you’re eliminating rose bushes, brambles, blackberries or thorn trees you can pull them out and take the load directly to the burn pile. No need to have to get off the tractor and pull them away from a fence or entanglement and you don’t have to worry about scattering the thorns…the entire plant goes to the pile. That eliminates foot injuries and scratches for you and your animals. You can also pull grapevines out of the ground and out of the top of the tree.
Second, by pulling the plant out of the ground there’s no need for stump treating with chemicals which saves money and the environment. You’ll find that all species of trees vary in difficulty in removing…on trees with tight root balls you may get all of the roots.
Finally, a tree puller has a low profile and can get under fences, clamp on brush and pull it right out with minimal disruption of the soil. That saves you having to try to extricate bushes and vines from fences manually and gets the job done in a fraction of the time.
The attachment used in the video is the Gator Tree Puller from Precision Manufacturing in Sedalia, Missouri. The Gator Tree Puller has a double row of teeth that provides a strong grip for exceptional pulling power and the spacing between the teeth rows allows debris to fall out or be easily removed. There’s a heavy telescoping cylinder guard that protects the hydraulic cylinder in both extended and retracted positions. The spade points can be used to dig roots and loosen soil. The Gator Tree Puller can also be used to remove posts and stakes or even move large rocks and boulders. It is a truly versatile tool.
A TAMEit spring-trip hydraulic hose holder is standard on all Gator Tree Pullers to keep the lines up off the ground and away from damage. The 525 Gator has no brush guard, the 535 has a heavy shield and also a side saw for taking down large trees.
If you’re looking for a way to remove trees, woody plants and thorn bushes, roots and all, the Gator Tree Puller may be your answer.

A tree puller and a root grapple are my two best friends and most used implements in my battle against locusts and cedars here in east Texas. Much like Mike I used to cut them down and then have to deal with the stumps by digging them out with a stump bucket. I'm glad those days are over. :-)

Thanks Mike for another great video. I bought a Danuser Intimidator last year and love it. I got it to save my back and chainsaw when tackling all the small trees and shrubs. It didn't even dawn on me to pull out the grapevines with it, thanks for the tip.

I have a short small diameter chain with a ring on one end and a hook on the other. Wrap chain around tree slip hook through ring and attach to bucket, best in back. Lift up, chain chokes on tree, cheap and easy.
@chevyon37s
@chevyon37s 4 жыл бұрын
That works if you only have to do a few every few years, and for speed’s sake have somebody on the ground hooking and unhooking your chain. We’ve got a Danuser version of this we use on a bobcat, and there is no way 2 guys with a chain and a loader tractor working a solid day could get done what I can in 2 hours. Also with a chain and bucket you’re not going to be able to get as large of a tree out, as with the narrow “snout” of these tree pullers you can really get in to dig and cut roots to get larger trees out.

We’ve got a Danuser tree and post puller. And it’s awesome for pulling trees! On a skid loader you’d really be surprised at how large of a tree you can get out with some digging

Using the bucket can work as well. Slightly below the top surface sink the bucket, then as you go forward, lift up slightly.

Hey Mike, I'd love you to do a video about old fashioned grader blades. Especially when you don't have remote hydraulics to power a hydraulic top link. Are they any good for for fixing up driveways? I'm too scared to even give one a try on mine, as I worry it'll do more harm than good.

Another disadvantage would be the extra strain placed on the front axle if you use one of these a lot trying to pull trees that your loader can't pull. Also watch out which species you're pulling, sometimes pulling makes the problem worse because you'll never get all the roots and those roots will sprout new trees and you're better off cutting them and using a stump killer.

I agree. I bought one of these last summer. I also bought a new Massey Ferguson 2706 E tractor to put it on. I like the ability to pull trees by the roots, carry them to a brush pile and put on top of the brush pile with out leaving the tractor seat. I also agree that there is no rhyme or reason for the size tree it will pull. I have pulled 6 inch diameter oak trees and had a 1 inch diameter hickory that it would not pull. Its all about soil condition and root structure. Just curious, what is the HP of the tractor you are using in the video?

The size stump he’s talking about removing is pretty darn small. The tree size is small. Let’s sat light to medium brush. Any hardwood then forget And if it’s a good sized man wrist size get a chainsaw. Like I said earlier I have one. I use mine mainly for overhead trimming. Like he said twice they are great on multi bloom rose bushes. About the extent of pulling.

Hey Mike, do you have any idea what the loader lift capacity is on your tractor? I’ve got a little bobcat CT 235 that can only muster about 1200 pounds. I feel like that’s going to struggle breaking anything loose more than a couple inches in diameter especially with a stout implement hanging off of the quick attach.

@TractorMike

It would fit on and have enough power to close around the tree but I'm afraid the weight of the puller would take all the lift capacity and not leave enough for pulling trees.

I have the Titan Tree Puller and a L4701HST Kubota, and it works well, BUT, as you showed on your video, you have to be very CAREFUL when backing up and lifting on a larger tree! I too have had the rear end of my tractor lift up into the air, and higher than I cared for!!!

Just curious. Have you ever tried replanting a tree that you've pulled, and has that tree survived? I'm looking to plant native trees, which I'd much rather pull out of an existing forest than to pay a nursery. Thanks!
@TractorMike
@TractorMike 2 жыл бұрын
Christopher, no I haven't, the trees I'm pulling I want rid of. If the ground were loose enough and it was a variety that was easy to transplant and you did it the right time of year, and it wasn't too damaged by the tree puller, it might work. When my wife and I were first married we tried to transplant an oak tree. That didn't work! Tap root goes on forever and we didn't get all of it and it didn't live. I think the tree puller would mess up the bark too much for most trees to survive, or at least the survival rate would be low. Best time to transplant deciduous trees is right before they start growing in the spring when they don't have leaves yet and the smaller the better. Larger trees have a much lower probability of making it. That's my experience anyway. Good luck, I hope you find the magic formula that works!
