Glad to have you back at your best Ben. I personally have a co-founder for a project or two and it most definitely helps immensely. As long as both have roughly the same amount of passion for the project when motivation is dwindling, a good brainstorm/confab between you two could have you revitalize it. As for the crypto stuff... ETH (or any blockchain with smart contracts) is/are probably the best bet, because verifying blocks is MUCH faster than other blockchain models (which even at its fastest is still 1-3 seconds which still seems a bit long for web-world). Just be wary of the way smart contracts can be hacked, and sub-chains sound fun... but are a nightmare to utilize quickly and effectively. I would personally put a brunt of the meta and data asserting in the smart contract, centralize the data, decentralize the ownership of that data. That kinda goes against the whole idea of blockchains, but it would make processing, verifying, hashing, and lookups a lot faster. Which in the world of blockchains can get surprisingly slow.

Revealing the idea after a MVP is complete is a much better strategy (especially compared to last time). Although, I would suggest going open source once your app is well established and v1.1 (after patching some inevitable launch day bugs) is released. Good luck on your new endeavor!

Ben, have you read Arvid Kahl’s book on bootstrapping? He talks about embedding yourself in a niche audience and discovering/solving their problems before ever coding a new product. I feel like one reason Dogehouse didn’t work out was because the market you were entering into was already entrenched with large players, which could’ve been anticipated with enough market research and not wasting time coding. Figured that book could a lot.
