Trav could also look into Senior A hockey rather than Beer Leagues, Senior A being Allan Cup level. Lots of ex juniors, college players etc but some leagues are probably sponsored so you can play for free in good organized leagues.

Man... I know the feeling Trav... Had similar situations three years ago with two teams in a row. It was a really though stretch, but in the End it turned out great for me. Now I'm with one of the best teams in the league and really improved myself on and off the ice. Heads up Trav, you're gonna live your dream soon. Hey Trav, I’m a beer league player from Australia so my skill level is rather low hah however I recently ruptured my ACL and had the surgery to get it repaired so I’m off the ice for a bit. Watching your videos and seeing your determination to play hockey really has helped me with my rehab and helped me push myself to get back to playing beer league. Goodluck with everything! Tough to see this happen to you man I haven’t played goalie in about 5 years and your videos quench my thirst for wanting to play goalie again, watching your videos makes me wish I would have kept playing goalie. The stuff in Sweden is a tough thing to happen, your agent didn’t do his job, and the team decided to play you guys as if you were pawns on a chess board, but best thing to do is ether look for a better opportunity maybe somewhere else in Europe or try finding something in North America but make sure to double check those things before the situation happens again

I think more of what the guys alluding to is ALOT of professional athletes when they started out didn’t even have a place to stay they’d stay in cars or other teammates houses and be happy they were chasing their dream . Sometimes you have to be happy with what you have and not put a place down because it could always be worse.

Or was this just a case of not securing a place to live with some kind of written lease before you went? And if that’s the case did the team or agent say something like rent here is usually like 500 then when you got there they couldn’t find one for that? I personally think the last straw with the team was when you were complaining about how rent was too high so they set you up with a cheaper option you turned it down wanted more options as if you were buying a house so they said enough is enough we’re here to focus on hockey not all the other shenanigans and then another player took it who understood the living conditions in Sweden isn’t like NA. Because I don’t think they would try and set you up in a new place just days before releasing you if the plan was to just cut you makes no sense

It's incredibly illegal here in Sweden..., and with the other. house, when you you tell the team you need 2 bed rooms because one has to do zoom lectures til 2am sometimes because his schooling is in Canada and they give. you 1 room and the entire place smells like a septic tank they are not interested in looking out for you. To rent a place in Sweden you need a Swedish SIN so Trav and I can't just go solve our living problem by ourselves, someone in Sweden has to sign for us. It's not complaining. when we have friends in Sweden from Allsvenskan to Division 3 with better living conditions. We haven't even complained on camera about some of the more suspect things that we went through in FIK. Grateful to be playing in Sweden? Absolutely I'm having the time of my life, making new friends, catching up with old one, learning a new culture, trying new foods, learning a different style of hockey, taking everything in. But that being said if your home life is stressing you out your on ice performance is going to reflect it. When you're told you're going to have a 2 bed place but the other bedroom is a couch in the livingroom it creates issues. We are grateful to be playing in Europe, don't mistake that!

Just learn from it. I commented before you left, that this wasnt pro hockey.. That you shouldnt expect to much of this experience... You should never leave your country, only to play hockey you are not even getting paid for. I understand, you have a bad taste in your mouth about european hockey. But, you just came to the wrong place... And the wrong league. The swedish 4th league is really bad in terms of management and such. I am currently playing for a team in the 4th league and we dont even have a coach, while other teams in the league have goalie coaches and everything. First of all you have to be good enough to play in Division 1 (3rd), and no Division 1 team in Sweden would ever take a chance on someone like Trav who hasn't really played competitive games since junior B. That's no disrespect to Trav, that's just the harsh reality. Second of all, there are plenty of Division 2 teams that are very serious and very well run. A team like Flemingsberg, who is a Division 2 bottom feeder in the Stockholm area (the area with the overall worst economy for smaller lower level clubs, the worst facilities, the worst rinks and the least local interest and fan support) that played in Division 3 not too long ago, doesn't represent swedish Division 2 teams as a whole. As a swede, I feel the need to adress this and to defend our reputation. Sweden is a serious hockey nation. I've played in Division 2 in the west and in the south when I was younger, for teams who were very well run, had serious ambitions, had the local community behind them and fairly large fan following for this kind of level. Stop making it sound like it's bush league.

Yes sweden is a serious hockey nation and and awesome country to play hockey in. However, if youre expecting a serious team, you wont find it in Division 2! Thats just the harsh reality! I have played in germany 2nd, 3rd and 4th league, in sweden division 1 and 2. In multiple teams. And, while the hockey is at a high level in all leagues in sweden, the seriousness is not! Someone who is a proud swedish division 2 player will never admit that. Or even see it... And I think this experience for trav, just provets my point!

I feel you bro. My experience wasn't quite as harsh as yours, but still. I went to Germany, got a contract offer: sticks, salary, help finding a job. Was super pumped, finally gonna play professional hockey and Ehhh. Team doesn't sign up for the season and corona shuts down the rest.. So now I'm back home, lost my job here, no hockey team to play for and yeah... It SUCKS.

You agent didn't do his job properly, that's for sure. I don't know what your arrangement was with that agent, but if he was working for a percentage of your pro salary, I can see why he barely used half his ass: any percentage of zero is bupkes. That said, he should have been more transparent with you, especially if he knew things before you did. At this point, you should have a checklist of questions to ask any new agent and I'm guessing you will be more invested in subsequent contracts. It's all about learning. Sorry you got hosed so badly.

Sorry to hear about you getting cut it fucking sucks I know from experience, but don't think of the experience of a waste you improved vastly over this 6 month span and helped me get through tough times, This summer I got an offer to play hockey across the country in Ontario for an academy at 15 years old and watching your videos, seeing someone go through something similar but at a much bigger scale and the mindset you put towards it. I translated for my experience and it has helped so much. If any teams are watching these videos Im sure they will give you a call because you got an amazing mindset, and work ethic and the fact you got pegs.
