Agreed totally, slow for most of journey, also what is it about books in Portuguese train stations, loads of new and second hand books…my wife and I noticed the same even in the underground in Lisbon, you descend the first escalator and behold tables with lots of books you pass before descending to the next level ??? Love your videos Tim

Thanks Martin, that’s really kind. I didn’t spot any books at stations, if I’d known that…

Me? You know i love a bit of concrete, so i loved all of Oriente. As for the Alfa, i think you are probably right. I suspect it gets to stretch its legs more between Lisbon and Porto 🤷♂️ but i agree they are good trains at a reasonable price too! Another interesting ride. Thanks for sharing it 👍

Thanks for watching! I think Oriente is one of those stations people either love or loathe. That's not a bad thing. I thoroughly enjoyed my CP time but it's back to UK based stuff for a little while.

Good god, was shocked how cheap that journey was 😮 fantastic video again. Was it my imagination or was that train sounding quite? I didn’t realise the railways in Portugal were state run, I was always under the impression railway companies had to be privatised being in the EU.. For what you paid, the quality of the train was utterly superb. Yes very good.

Ridiculously cheap, which perhaps helps explain why it was so busy. The AP was a lovely train, quiet and with excellent ride quality. We just didn’t get up to top speed on this section of line sadly. As I understand it, CP is state owned but I’m no expert on the functioning of the EU in these matters so I’m happy to be corrected. Overall I was impressed by CP. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it.

Great video as usual! I suspect the line speed is lower on this route, maybe it can reach its top speed on Lisbon - Porto? And maybe the two lines should be split, if there are delays knocking on to the flagship route from the capital, it's not a good look. And I also suspect most travellers will be going to or from the capital, rather than Porto - Faro.

It was lovely train, but yes maybe just using loco hauled stock would make better sense on the Lisbon-Faro section. Thanks so much for watching.

Fantastic Video Tim! Very informative as always. Also spot on with the Ferrari analogy, when i went from Porto to Lisbon there were very few times the train managed to reach "high speed" speeds, maybe line improvements are needed. Keep it up with these videos. 😁

Thanks for watching mate, I really enjoyed the AP but it seemed like a missed opportunity. I’ve more train vids lined up so stay tuned. 😃

Oriente station from the top looks stunning, Cathedral like. Inside it depths, not as impressive, brutalist maybe.
