Turkey oven bags or nylofume pack liner. The trash bags and contractor bags gets tiny holes all over very quickly. Turkey oven bags are very light and durable enough to cook a turkey.

For the tape problem, you could tear a ziplock bag and put the plastic between the tape and your sock. Sealskin also makes some good neoprene socks.

Leukotape does the same thing for me, it gets sticky/messy… it helps to double layer the tape in hot spots on your feet. I also tried putting a little New Zealand foot wool under the leukotape, and that worked too. I think when Leukotape gets warm the sticky stuff migrates through the tape and gets all over sock etc. have a great hike!

Crocs or boat shoes are pretty handy in the Maine section when you run out of bridges. Being able to ford a river/creek without soaking your shoes and socks is pretty helpful.

Two thumbs up for the CTUG pouch. I hiked the AT last year with a pack, fanny pack, water bottle sleeve, and phone pouch by them. Fantastic gear and a great company. Just an FYI, you might be used to packing out toilet paper from hiking in the West, but you don't have to do that on the AT unless you want to. The ground is damp enough all year round to properly break it down, plus there are several times where you can use a privy instead of having to dig a cat hole. Good luck on your hike, I hope you have a great time.

For this tape issue, try applying some lip balm or similar to the outside of the tape, probably won't stick to anything after that.

Be very aware of the ticks. Treat your outer clothes and gear with permethrin every few weeks. Protect yourself when treating with permethrin. The ticks make some hikers sick each year. Consider adding an umbrella and waterproof socks. I like a poncho to cover me and my pack but also as a tarp over the tent in a frog choker. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

@@morganlambert You might be able to get your doctor to give you a course of antibiotics to take with you. If you go through TSA, chances are they will take it from you. Know the symptoms and get to a doctor immediately. Anaplasmosis(one of the 9 tick diseases) killed my wife in about 2 weeks. When I had it, it crippled me in 3 days. Fortunately, I had gotten doxycycline quickly so that the symptoms were gone in a week. Be aware but don't ruin your adventure by worrying. Chances are you won't get tick sick. This will be memories for the rest of your life. Good Luck, Rick

Everything looks solid! I saw a comment about your pack size but, I would say disregard that. You’ve got your stuff dialed in and , to me , (not that that means anything) you’re prepared to change stuff out on trail. I’m starting late February…23…. And hope to see you on trail! I like that you’ve got some experience. I’m just surprised how many start out with little to no backpacking experience. You’ll figure out what you need to on trail. I am super interested in you coming from the west coast. I lived in Denver and Portland and did a little hiking then, not like I do now, as I’ve been preparing for my hike in Appalachia , Smokies , especially, but it’s a little different. I know your prepared and I can only assume you are as excited as I am. This time before my start has been the most difficult for me. I’m just ready to start but also want to enjoy my time before my start…🤷♂️ So confusing. Anyway, good luck and see ya on trail! 🤙

Oh awesome! They have been great to me so far too! So the booties are the NRS Hydroskin 0.5 socks. Supposedly they don't keep your feet totally dry but are supposed to help keep them warm. You should be careful using tweezers to pull ticks as they can explode and all their insides get in your blood. You should get a dedicated tick remover. They are really really cheap and really really light. There's no reason not to carry one

@morganlambert Жыл бұрын
To be honest with you, I'm not totally sure how it works out on the AT. I have mainly gone backpacking in parts of California where you kind of have to pack it out and I also usually use wipes instead of toilet paper. I think for me it is more of a habit but I'm not 100% sure if it is necessary.
