To have a true artificial pancreas, it would require both an insulin and glucagon supply I suspect- such as the one Professor Ed Damiano was working on in the US. Last I heard, it was pending certification from the FDA, here's hoping one day it will eventually get put through. One issue I've noticed with the Freestyle is that it can give false readings due to a change in temperature. Going from the warm into the cold makes it rise by about 1.5 to 2 mmol/l and going from cold to warm appears to have the opposite effect- particularly troublesome in the winter months

Thanks for the insights. I am on pump waiting list in the UK. My A1C and time in range are both very good on MDI but the so called cognitive load or thinking time can be quite wearing, So I am hoping for some relief from that together with not injecting about 50 times a week for basal and bolus. I think that scepticism about this as a total solution is quite right, Until a pump delivers glucagon as well as ifaster acting insulin then any description as an artificial pancreas is just misleading marketing nonsense, Your concerns about the CGM accuracy are spot on and my major worry about trying the pod is it not recognizing low sugar and not cutting insulin off, Cross fingers. Thanks for this, it is a great perspective. It has opened my eyes on the hypos - Yes, it can lower your future insulin but it can never remove insulin already given. Which means even though "closed loop" it still needs outside input for diet in! I am going to share with my ICB team.

Great video, very useful. I was interested that you find discrepancies between Libre and actual blood glucose readings, mine would be accurate in the morning but always a couple of mmols out later in the day. Hope to start Omnipod5 in the new year, I've been using Omnipod for 3yrs now and just love it!!

Great video, thanks for sharing your experiences! I have used Omnipod Dash and Freestyle Libre for a few years now. Do you experience problems with Omnipod and micro bubbles or problems with delivery itself?

Specifically the Libre 2 Plus - it’s a relatively new CGM that works with closed loop! 😊 I am located in the UK
