In 1989 , during those days people had very limitwd options in private sector. There were no computers or IT filed. People preffered PSUs like ONGC, NTPC SAIL IOC BPCL etc. Keep writing entrance tests and get into one of them . But now the scenario is totally different - you have lot of avenues.

Is Making Phone Calls to Family, Possible in Offshore oil rigs?

Yes, it is possible to make phone calls. However, it may be sometimes difficult due to some reasons. Moreover, there are some network issues, especially in monsoon. In private rigs hired by ONGC, you will even have wifi unlike many process platforms.
