Reach out and ask around there and see if you can find someone who would be a crew member that's willing to help sail. There are people that look for things like this to build up their sailing skills.

After twenty-seven years of sailing solo and I wouldn't have it any other way. The first time I slept alone on a crossing was very difficult, but I got used to it quickly. Docking solo can be very stressful even after all these years, but usually someone will step in to catch lines. Sailing solo, in my opinion, has many benefits that easily outweigh the downsides.
@obiwanfisher5372 жыл бұрын
I know it's been two years, but I wanted to mention that two years ago I started my boat adventures, and docking is shockingly a lot easier than I thought. I rather dock alone than with inexperienced crew. Blown off, blown on, narrow turns; It's all pretty easy. Only thing tricky are the more extreme situations like wind blowing you off the dock in an unfamiliar marina with a narrow for you to pull between two large boats, solo. That was a fun day haha To be honest docking is more fear of breaking stuff than actually difficult.
@flyingdutchman69842 жыл бұрын
@@obiwanfisher537 I always pull up to a dock thinking I will either look like a genius or complete idiot. Thankfully after years of doing it I am looking more and more like a genius and less like an idiot. My present dock is perpendicular to a deep river with a substantial hidden current. I have somehow managed to make it look easy but, there is always the possibly of it going sour fast. It has become a sport watching rental boaters getting surprised by the current. They turn into the dock and then spin around 90 degrees with a confused look on their face.
@obiwanfisher5372 жыл бұрын
@@flyingdutchman6984 Okay, but that is just mean haha. That might even surprise experienced boaters. Local knowledge is something else.

I'm so impressed by your handling of it all (says a lot about your character) and also how much grace you're showing Spencer. For anyone to admit their fears (especially a male in our society) that's a big deal... so I also applaud him for being honest, but I am sorry to see that it's put you in a bind. Were I not a newbie I'd offer my services to Crew, but Im sure you'll find someone soon!

Nah, it was a dick move to just leave while he was away. Not even having the courtesy of thanking your traveling mate and owner of the boat for the trip and experience shared. Nothing brave or honest about it. Maybe 50 years ago it would be hard to admit fear as a man, these days its almost expected.

Josh, I commend you on being restrained in your comments about the way that Spencer left you via text. That level of immaturity is astounding. I can pardon his fear of blue water sailing and it is good that he jumped ship before you headed out to sea or you would have had an even bigger problem. He lacks character and/or good parenting which you have in spades. Your restraint in you comments about what happened shows a lot about you and is one of the reasons I am a subscriber. Also, you are feeding my dream of sailing so I thank you for that.

This is so fascinating. I just bought a used 34’ Beneteau, after which I broke up with my girlfriend and former first mate. I’m intrigued with the idea of solo sailing. It’s a bit unnerving to be honest, but many sailers do it and swear by it. Best to you, Josh. Looking forward to future episodes.

Hey Josh, Following since you bought the boat... Why not just prop at a town along the ICW, and advertise for a crew member (someone) that is looking for adventure to travel down to the Bahamas by boat..... Supermarket message boards, F/Book, Instagram even Marinas etc... In Northern Australia you would advertise this sort of thing at Backpacker accommodation and end up with a couple..... Hell.. at this point I'd even be trying Tinder..... there must be someone that would like an adventure ride on a Yacht down to the Bahamas. Andrew

Bravo to you for carrying on. So dang hard to find good help. And Shame on Wimpy the short sighted deserter. Remember to give a truthful account (for reference). Guessing (dodger will likely (surely) experience regret, and) his sailing days are probably through anyhow. Silver lining: at least he went soft while still in country, and not mid passage or in rough seas. Good example - it’s obvious that stout discipline (Has been paramount historically ) the necessity of the lash! His one pardonable defense ? Is that maybe you’re a harsh taskmaster, and he found himself hopelessly attached to a lovely Tahitian princess? 😆 seriously though Good luck

Josh,On one of the episodes I watched, you mentioned a Samsung tablet that is WIFI ready and you had programmed Navionics on it. Can you let me know which Samsung tablet you purchased and what carrier you are using in order to use this program on the water?I am purchasing a 45 SeaRay Cruiser and will attempt to make use of this program.Thank you in advance.Bernie.
@JoshPostVlogs5 жыл бұрын
Hey Bernie. Thanks for the note. The Samsung tablet I use is called Samsung SM-T580. It's a 10.1 inch tablet around $200 on Amazon. You don't need a "carrier". You just need to make sure the tablet has internal GPS. The SM-T580 has GPS so it's good to go. Then download the Navionics app for the area you're sailing. It will cost you about $15 for the app but well worth it. Cheers!
