i believe that the word is a loaded, racist word but pewdiepie is not a racist. in the context used, it was basically a swear word, he wasn't using it to demean a person of another race. Unfortunately, a lot of the gaming community is toxic and they say ridiculous things, to some people that takes the teeth out of these offensive words, much like the internet edgy humor is much different than real life humor. And they end up not seeing these as being as offensive as they actually are. The real thing is context and intent, pewds was not yelling racial slurs to berate someone for their skin, he was using cuss words. I always get frustrated with things like this. As a black person, it frustrates me that everyone is always quick to chastise people for racist statements online but in real life no one says a word, no one stands up for black people's rights. Armchair activists are a joke. What is step two? Everyone's agrees Pewds isn't a racist. He has apologised, it felt sincere to me (but what do I know). I just don't get what else the community wants. In the KZbin court of public opinion the 'sentence' is vague. Do we need to shout at him for two weeks minimum to feel like we've treated the offence with appropriate respect? Or is it three weeks? Does he have to lose 20k subscribers or all of them? Should he be stripped of his livelihood entirely or will a donation of his weeks earnings suffice? It's a fucking joke. The reality is everyone will be outraged and berate him until the next thing happens and everyone forgets. Is that fair on him? Is that fair on the fight against discrimination?
