I’m married to a babalawo and have been initiated with both hands of ifa and also as a priestess. This is very enlightening information about marriage and I agree but I can also say we are still able to have free will when it comes to what we want from our partners even though the cultural standards are prevalent. The agreement between me and my babalawo husband family and mine is that he cannot have any other wives nor mistresses if he want to marry me and it was agreed before marriage. We have to be open and real with one another before embarking on a journey called marriage on what we know we won’t and will be able to handle.

Alaafia Day. I thought I was going to be a monk and live in the mountains, smiling. Very detailed insight on IFA'S take on marriage. Hey Day you should do a video about dating in the IFA tradition. What does IFA say about courtship? But no love making in the day, really no exploring? Alrighty then, smiling. Very interesting. Thanks Day.

A lot of babalawos in Nigeria have multiple wives, some up to 12 wives and they all are not taken care of equally.

So I am dating a Santero who is into the religion more than me. Aside from what you've mentioned, are there any marriage ceremonies unique to Ifa?

oh my god! Yes, I've vowed that if I feel like I'm meeting "the one"...even if that person is great but their family is an obvious mess AND they haven't done therapy? Nope, I'm out.

Seems i would feel embarressed in this practice being older and still single. I would like a partner but its been many many many many many moons just dont seem to be my destiny. You cant just get married if no one worthy wants you.

Where can I find a book for beginners to teach about Yoruba way of life ?

Greetings, If you are still searching for a good book on Ifa, I would recommend "Ifa Will Mend Our Broken World" by Wande Abimbola c.1997-2003. It is an intermediate read, but a healthy place for a beginner to begin & come back to aa knowledge is acquired. It was recommended to me by an Iyanifa (Isese Yoruba Priestess) in my city upon my request. Unfortunately, this book is difficult to acquire at proper market price. It is listed on Amazon well over. If you are still looking, I may be able to assist you in acquiring the book. I have purchased it from a book dealer in Atlanta, GA for $35. Please respond by pm on my Instagram: @brownbrujabtchcraft if you would like to discuss by phone further. Peace
