This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I love how you explain everything, including your learning process, and learning through mistakes! I'm trying to learn what I can about furniture upcycling and flipping, and it's hard when people don't explain what products/tools do, and you do, which I so appreciate!

Try an orbital sander on those scratches, it would make quick work of removing them.

Funny you should mention that. I pulled out my orbital sander yesterday to work on a tough finish and it DID make quick(er) work. But it's a simple sander. There's no dust extraction so my garage is now covered in a film of dust. What orbital do you use? Would you recommend it or something else? I dont want to purchase another super expensive sander like my Surfprep at this time so I'm looking for something moderately priced for these stubborn scratches and finishes.

If you are on a budget, I would get a corded dewalt sander at home depot for less than a $100 or a ryobi orbital. I have a surf prep which is great, but I found my orbital sander better for removing scratches and finishes

Everything I read said to topcoat the glaze. But I didn’t. The paint I used had a built in topcoat plus I had added poly to the last coat of paint. So the paint was protected. The glaze wasn’t going anywhere. Plus I figured if it did wear down a little,it would look like natural wear.

I really enjoy your videos!!! I’m trying to refinish a pair of Dixie nightstands and I used kilz gray primer. And it scratched off in places just like yours!! But not everywhere. So I’m going to cross my fingers and hold my mouth right and sand then re-prime them. You did a wonderful job! ❤️

Isn’t that annoying?! So sorry that happened. If there is laminate anywhere on your nightstands then be sure to use an oil base primer. Good luck and let me know how your second attempt goes.

Need to use Valspar Bonding primer.
@tableflippinghousewife
@tableflippinghousewife Жыл бұрын
I’ve never used that. How would you say it compares with the performance of the oil based Zinsser Bin shellac? That’s typically my go-to but I’m looking for a good water based primer that I can run through my sprayer.

I’ve started having trouble finding pieces to work on that are somewhat reasonably priced. I’ve started not only checking Facebook market place but goodwill, auction houses, estate sales, and yard sales. Have you come into the same problems in your area?
@tableflippinghousewife
@tableflippinghousewife 2 жыл бұрын
I'm having a hard time finding pieces in general at Goodwill. If there's something that I like, someone has already ripped the tags off. Grrrr. But I'm still able to find plenty of pieces from FB Mktplace. When something is out of my budget I send the seller a complimentary message, something like, "What a gorgeous dresser! I absolutely love it! No doubt it will sell fast because you've priced it fairly. But if for some reason it doesn't sell, and you are willing to lower the price, please let me know." That's often worked in my favor. Now, I'm outside of Atlanta. Where are you? Perhaps it's your market that has made it difficult to find pieces.What I can't find anywhere, however, is MCM furniture that I can afford. I'm considering auction houses for those.

Trying to finish some countryfrench pieces. I’ve sanded cleaned and just finished paint 2 coats of Fusion white picket fence color. Not happy with look of finish It’s flat What should finish be? I like semi gloss certainly not flat Please guide
@tableflippinghousewife
@tableflippinghousewife 5 ай бұрын
I don’t find Fusion to have a flat finish. Chalk paint is flat. I find Fusion to be in between matte and semi gloss. Nonetheless, apply a semi gloss or high gloss topcoat if you want a shiny finish. I hope that helps.

@@tableflippinghousewife ok thanks. Does fusion make semigloss or high gloss or which brand would you recommend
@tableflippinghousewife
@tableflippinghousewife 5 ай бұрын
@@MaryFaulkner-r3k Not sure about Fusion topcoats. Do they even sell them since Fusion advertises that it is a “no topcoat needed” product? I’m currently using Behr Polyurethane in a Matte finish but it comes in semi gloss. I’ve also used Varathane and Minwax polycrylic. General finishes makes a very good topcoat as well, but I’ve never tried it myself.
