I remember being neglected by my mother. What neither she nor I realize at the time was that I had hypoglycemic unawareness. I would have a low blood sugar and beat up my sister. My mother never informed what I did. By the time I got to the hospital, I was in ketoacidosis and dying. She implied I had a contagious disease which got the attention of the ignorant staff at Touro Infirmary. I wish my mother had screamed at the staff, but as my dad said, she was manipulative. I did survive, but because of my resilience, not because of any effort on my mother's part.

I can understand the reason for her mother's actions. Moreover, her sister would end up feeling entitled. However, there is no excuse for how her father acted.
