If you totally want to go for those profiles then no point in doing all those kinds of stuff, rather you should prepare for the roles that you are looking for. But then if you want to keep your options open then it is preferrable to do coding and all.

Bhai Jana toh baad mein software mein hai toh Acha branch choose Karo 1)CSE 2)ECE/EE 3) Mathematical and computing and rest branches. This was also told by my cousin, who is graduated from IIT-kgp (civil) but at last went to software cause there is no good placements in core branches!He was offered approx 12 LPA ,now he is doing MBA from UCLA.
