I love that you are addressing the rampant consumerism that exists amongst planner influencers. We should have a one planner per year challenge 😂

I love this! I feel like the longer you stay in your planner you can actually develop your system instead of focusing on set ups. It's progress.

Omg that would be a fun challenge actually

I’ve decided to use my Hobo freebie booklet in my car. It will log Mileage when necessary, Oil changes, Gas price fluctuations, Directions and General Maintenance. All the car stuff… you get the idea! Great video by the way!😊

Thank you so much :) I think a little booklet is an excellent way to have all info in the same place, especially if you can reuse it year after year!!

Thank you for addressing or speaking about the overconsumption in the planner community. I was like this with the Happy Planner but had a reality check that I did not need all of the planners. Since then I noticed I’m a book bound planner type of girl. Sure I miss the ability to add different inserts, etc but it still fell into the overconsumption aspect. I realized I only need 1-2 planners a year an everyday planner and a faith planner. What I like to do around August before the new planner releases start in Sept. I reevaluate my planners to see what’s been working and what has not. I also journal my thoughts on how my life is going, what’s been going good for me and what areas of my life I want to focus on for the new year. (I know super early to think about this but it’s good to kind of know what it is you’re struggling with so you don’t get sucked into buying everything just because) Once I’ve reevaluated everything. I create like a mind map of the planners I’m considering and I’ll jot down notes on how I would use each section of the planner for the new year. The price of each planner. Release dates, etc. I also try to be honest with myself too like I’m not a super busy person and we don’t have children yet. How much can I honestly put in a planner. This has been one of the ways I curb that desire to buy buy buy. I try to do this with every purchase that is not planned related to.

Thank you for your detailed comment! I am glad I am not the only one. I think self-awareness is very important on these topics. Also, I agree on the importance of reflecting not only on your purchases but also on your needs, how you ACTUALLY plan, etc. I think these reflections are a very important part of planning in general and often overlooked! Sorry for the late reply, hope you are enjoying your planner (if you got it!

Yes!! Definitely coming soon as we finally dive into our planners! Hope you are just as excited about yours :) i am happy I am not the only one with the same "issues" with bujo - but the best part of the method is exactly that it changes with us of course!

I love this video and loathe it - let me explain……I’m a planner hopper and bought all the things and now feel absolutely terrible . And you’re right about all the things you said ….😢I’m going to go feel guilty now
@singingrazors25 күн бұрын
Something that might help (as a guilt expert aka lapsed catholic) that I heard recently was sometimes we actually get the dopamine hit from the wanting to buy things vs the actual buying them. So like window shop or look at pretty things, but set a limit like you come back after a week or a month and if you still want it, then buy it. But you still get the happy brain chemicals by looking at the pretty things without buying so much and feeling guilty for it later.

Don't feel terrible! Everything we do, we do for a reason. Sometimes we go through phases where we feel that we need lots of stuff and sometimes we don't. If you are feeling guilty, then maybe that is a sign that next year it's time for a no buy, but if you enjoy it, then there's no reason to feel bad at all
@NikkiePlans23 күн бұрын
This is 100% true, it works for me most of the time! I often just add them to cart and then don't buy them and I swear it's almost as good as actually buying them!

I've only recently decided to begin paper journal planning as one means of reducing screen time. I stumbled around a bit product wise, and recently committed to Sterling Ink for 2025. I back-ordered (sigh!) a B5 Horizontal Planner and a B5 Page Grid for a Reading Journal. I look forward to your videos about how you will make use of your common planner!

I am surprised by how much I am enjoying my Sterling Ink! Hoping you are enjoying yours just as much, no long now until we can make full use of it! Will try to do some plan with me videos, I might get some good tips in return too!

I left the cousin in 2023 for all the same reasons you stated. Went to the B6 Common Planner because it was the only size available, but ended up having to add another notebook because I do use more than one page a day, plus collections. I thought about the B5 this year, but figured I'd stay with the two books system I've been using the last 2 years. Sometimes FOMO hits, but then I remember I like looking back at my journals and hate being frustrated when I can't remember which planner I was in when, when I've planner hopped in the past.
@NikkiePlans23 күн бұрын
Yep, fomo is a very powerful thing, but those half empty journals sure help remind us of what works and what doesn't lol My biggest fear with the common planner is exactly to not have enough space, but hopefully this is not the case!!

I so agree about buying more and more and am with you on the bullet journal method but like a plan for the months so I’m trying the sterling ink this year too. Look forward to seeing how you set it up

I think this will be the year of the "semi bullet journalers" which is what I'll be calling us from now on :D thank you so much for you comment
@ashlyluvsyellow2 ай бұрын
Agreed about bullet journal. I like the method for my lists and notes but I need a 12 month calendar and to see the months. I'm using some of his method in my discbound notebook and I'm able to have a calendar while using his method for taking notes and have a daily log.

As a woman who also needs to keep her sh*t together, I absolutely loved this video. I'm using a Cousin as a memory planner and a Weeks mega for an EDC. I love pens & planning and all things stationary. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more from you soon! 😊

I really appreciate looking at this from a reduced consumerism perspective. I was going to try a hobonichi cousin this year but when I looked at my stack of unused notebooks and bullet journals I just could not do it. So, instead, I'm focusing on using up what I have. I've ordered looseleaf tomoe rive paper to try and see if i love it for way less cost and less risk of waste as well. As much as I enjoy the aesthetic of a thumbnail featuring a stack of beautiful journals, it kind of horrifies me to think that they are on new purchases and going to be hopped between within the year. One, because it does feel very wasteful to have six new journals every year, and two, because that kind of book hopping would do my brain in so bad. I'm personally trying to figure out a way to make a one book system work for me because my preference is to have my whole year in ONE place.
@NikkiePlans23 күн бұрын
Yes, I actually completely agree, I hadn't thought about it that way. Everything around us is so "short-form", that we can't commit to something long-term, even offline!

I went back to the Hobonichi cousin, as the bujo system just doesn’t work for me anymore. I did get their 5 year journal to use as a health journal, as I’m in the process of figuring out what’s physically ailing me 😅❤

I’m using the B5 Common planner next year but in vertical layout. It was an impulse buy so I think I’m going to use for goal planning and memory keeping and common place. I plan to keep my tasks in another planner.

Honestly I want to be a vertical planner so bad but it is just not me lol - but the idea of using it as a common planner is very interesting actually
