My PORTABLE ART STUDIO // TRAVEL SKETCHING KIT // Plein Air and Urban Sketching Art Supplies

Here's my sketching kit that I always have in my bag when I travel around or just go to a coffee shop. I use it for pretty much every kind of art work, specially urban sketching and plein air. All these art supplies I have been gathering throughout many years so I hope my experience is beneficial to you. Since this has all the mediums I like I call it my portable art studio.

I also recommend white 0.7 posca instead of gel pens, but I will still watch your video of the gel pens, because I want to learn

If you want an eraser for highlights I recommend the mono zero erasers by tombow. They are divine and refillable!❤

With the pencils that looks like a super complete and versatile little package you can do a lot with. Love it! Also; tomorrow I will be running to the store for a watersoluable graphite pencil, apart from regular watercolour pencil I'm amazed I never thought of that but naturally that's perfect for light sketching that dissolves when you start painting.

I'm so glad you liked it! And yes, run and get those pencils, they might feel a bit weird at the beginning because it feels like a new thing but you'll adjust in a sec and have so much fun!

If you’re going to get a new fountain pen I HIGHLY recommend a Sailor de Mannen fude pen or any fude nib pen. They are perfect for sketching and it give you a variety of line widths. For the white highlife I reccomend the Pentel Milky Brush pen in white OR POSCA white

Just encountered your video by accident. I used to have the same pencil case but it decided to give it away because it was too bulky for me 😅 I kept shoving more supplies in that I don’t use. Otherwise, I would recommend giving the Kuretake or the Caran D’ache water brush a try. I do like the molotow one for details, but they are quite hard to find depending on where you are. As for fountain pen, while I am a big fan of high quality fountain pen, I’m always worried that I’ll lose mine while urban sketching. So I got some cheap but really functional ones from Jinhao. If you want something that is high quality that doesn’t break the bank, you can try the TWSBI Eco. Alternatively if you like to draw with different line variation, you can opt for the Fude Mannen from Pilot. I have both of them and have been using them for a long time and would recommend them to most if not all of my friends who draws. Hope this was helpful!

Thank you for sharing. For white: I use Copic ink which comes in a small jar with a small brush or they have a small jar that is copic white pigment. Very nice coverage. Peace.

I didn't really like Lamy Safaris for sketching. The ink tended to skip if you sketch fast and you have to hold it a very specific way because of the shape of their barrel. If you can get a Pilot Metropolitan in your area, I think they're much better and usually a bit cheaper than Lamy.

Hi ioseba. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Nice urban sketching / plein air setup. I'm a wildlife and nature artist and recently started to get a bit more into urban sketching too, specially after taking one of Ian Fennelly's online workshops. I carry similar art supplies in a minimalist pouch (watercolors, 2mm 2H & 2B, a few soluable colored pencils for sketching too, water soluable graphite tin from Artgraph, etc.). For inking (which I love to use too) I usually carry 3 Fountain pens: a TWSBI ECO nib with Parker Qink Black ink (it's water soluable and when water is applied it splits into different types of colours and shades - it's beautiful); my trusty Sailor FUDE de Mannen with a 45° FUDE nib and SketchInk Lotte - Black non-soluable ink (best ink with regards to price here in Spain for line & wash with watercolors); and my Lamy Safari nib with SketchInk brown/Sepia. I prefer fountain pens because I can use the inks I want to use and it's more friendly with our planet since you drastically help reduce plastic waste (compared to if you use throw away plastic pens, liners, etc.). For sketchbooks I love Hahnemuhle. I use their square 20x20 cms 100% cotton sketchbook for watercolor and line&wash; and their Nostalgie Sketchbook for mixed media (awesome for ink drawing and painting as well as for sketching and using soluable graphite & coloured pencils). Just wanted to share some of the Art supply options I use & take with me at all times in my Art & EDC bag so it may help others too. I just found you today in KZbin and you have a New subscriber. Hiii! I'm a new sub! What country are you from and what are the colors in the Contraluz palette? I love how you have so many mediums in one little pouch! You should add a dip pen and a tiny bottle of Dr. Ph Martin's Bleedproof white if you can get it.

I don't paint outside too often but I do travel quite a bit, so I like bringing a small setup with me all the time :)

Nooooooo, don't buy a lamy fountain pen. They are for kindergarteners. That's the fountain pen given to kindergarten students. They are a dollar pen whose price has been bumped up because of youtubers. Don't be a victim of the mere exposure effect. If you want a great fountain pen buy Japanese. If you want a great fountain pen for sketching, your urban sketchers kit etc but a cheap Chinese dupe. They have better nibs for sketching, include converters and are extremely inexpensive. Don't fall for the KZbin monkey see monkey do nonsense. You are much better off buying a pilot metropolitan or any Japanese fountain pen. There's a reason Japan is known world wide as the world's leader in office / stationary supplies.
