MY PREGNANCY & BIRTH STORY : ELECTIVE C-SECTION | NATASHA BAILIE

This is my pregnancy and birth story. I decided quite early on in my pregnancy that I wanted a scheduled cesarean and after many months of research and talking at length with both my midwife and Doctor I gave birth to Max via elective C-Section in Singapore in 2013.
I never imagined that this would be the route I would take, but after my miscarriage I had really strong feelings about gaining as much control over the birthing process as possible. I know that having a c-section is down to the doctors so you actually have little control, but I wanted Max to arrive as quickly and as safely as possible. I would have nightmares about birthing complications, I would obsessively watch videos of natural labours and I chose to give birth via cesarean. I would do it again and I enjoyed the process. I had a smooth pregnancy and delivery. My recovery was textbook and I gave birth to a healthy baby boy in January.
I realise that some of you found me yesterday, some a year ago and some of you have been here since I started this KZbin journey, but none of you witnessed the first year - I could hardly communicate, let alone vlog.
I am starting a new series here, on my channel where I go 'back to the start' and share my stories from the first year of motherhood with you.
Max is now 3 years old and I worry that you might think I have everything figured out and to the outside - I might look like an 'established parent'. These first story videos are my way of sharing and documenting my own personal baby steps to where I am now.
My hope is that you guys will get to know me better, that you will have a better sense of my life, my background and I hope that you will see where I was and where I am now. My first story is a little sad, but it felt wrong to not begin here, after all this is where my journey began.
Love,
NB x

I was approved for an elective C section yesterday, I'm SO happy! Its my first baby and due to a few health issues I knew from the moment I saw 2 lines on the pregnancy test that I wanted to get a C section

Hi! I was just wondering what health issues approved you for a c-section? I’m so nervous my OB will say no :(

I am 37 weeks pregnant... I'm extremely sensitive to pain and struggle to keep myself calm during medical procedures.... Even during pv examinations...hence I told the doctor that I want to go for c-section cs I aintt sure that I'll be able co-operate during the entire Process of a normal delivery and its essential for the baby's well being that I do. Ppl including my in-laws keep criticising me .. but my doctor said that the choice is mine and she wouldn't risk mine and baby's emotional and physical well being. Ppl are so judgemental around me but I made a choice 😊

+GIBSONVLOGS Cheers, I feel like women need to feel less scared of the C word, because emergency C sections are nothing to be ashamed of and you definitely have not "failed", which is something I hear a lot.

After a traumatic 39 hour induction, when my BIG baby got stuck round the wrong way, I was thrilled when my doctor said I'd be heading for a c-section! Felt right for me, I was born in theatre, I'm a theatre nurse, I knew some of the staff & there was no way I'd ever have been able to have delivered naturally as we was in the crown position & back to back. Couldn't have been more relaxed & get what you mean about 2 martinis down! Of course all that really matters is that baby & mama are safe & healthy, it really doesn't matter how we arrive into the world. Can't wait for the next instalment!

Thanks for sharing! So so good you decided to do it the way you wanted it to. When being pregnant as a woman you get so many opinions, and advice and "you should do this...and try that" it gets really overwhelming sometimes. xoxo

I completely understand. I had a horrendous labour with my son which ended in an emergency c section. I had this bad feeling from the beginning and asked multiple times for a c section but was fobbed off. I will be having an elective c section if we have another baby.

I love your style lady and I feel you all the way. Currently 34 wks with non identical twin boys and am going for an elected section. Gut instinct felt it was the right choice for me from the moment I found out I was having twins. :)

Nice to hear a positive c section story! I had an emergency c section at 32 weeks with my first and absolutely felt that I had failed at the first hurdle of parenthood! Gotta love the drugs though - I think I entertained many a midwife and my husband with my ramblings during my second labour!

I have had two surgeries on my hip labrums and then I broke my femoral heads (military related) and I needed to have that c section so that my hips did not separate further which would have made it easier for my legs to break yet again. It's technically a scheduled or elective c section. But let someone tell me my decision wasn't the best. A lot of people don't understand. You are an amazing mom for being able to explain your decision.

Max is just such a MEGA dude Natasha 😊 You have done AMAZING ! I had a c section with both my boys they are Achilles 6 and Joshie is 3 same age as Max. I totally hear you with having previous miscarriages and needing to feel the control over the safety of how your baby is born 😊 xxx

I had an emergency c section after going into labour naturally on my due date, labour went fine, got to 9cms (with only gas, but was dying for an epidural by the end) when my boys heart rate dropped and they took me in for emergency c section. Recovery was fine, was pretty much back to normal 2 weeks later. Now I'm trying to weigh up what I'll do for the next one (baby #1 is 8 months, want to start trying for #2 within the next year). I'm a control freak so the idea of an elective cesarean sounds ideal but there's so many other factors to consider! If you ended up having baby #2 would you do it again?

Thanks for sharing, love hearing people birth stories! If you have another baby would you have a c-section again? I had an emergency c-section with my first and have a feeling that they may push for a c-section if I have any more. My first was 9lbs 6oz!!! and also had a massive head!!! Xx

+Life with the Corbitts Corbitt Power to the big babies! I think I would have another C section, I understand the recovery now etc, but never say never I guess. I have friends who have gone on to have natural vaginal births after cesarean so I don't think because you chose one path, the other is closed off to you. xx

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my baby girl has been chilling in the same breeched position since day 1. I swear she hasn't moved around, floated to the other side, nothing. I'm going to the chiropractor in two days and I'm hoping they can turn her (though my doctor said chances are very slim in this case). If not, my hoped for natural birth has just turned into a c-section. I'm becoming more comfortable about this, hearing women's stories and the successes. But I really didn't want to be "two martinis in" lol It's just a preference, either way I just want my little one to come safely and healthily, thank you for sharing!

I had an emergency c-section with our oldest, I was induced, then he was in distress, I had pre eclampsia so after hours of painful contractions I practically snogged the doctor when he said a c-section was to be done! fast forward five years and due to a lack of movements we nearly lost our now two year old at 39 weeks. I Was whisked for an emergency c section after being monitored (he was really distressed to the point if I had gone to bed he wouldn't be here), My husband missed it as he was at work in London and it was the scariest night of my life. In hind site I always knew I wouldn't give birth naturally - I think you know and it's been something I have struggled with but I wish I had planned the second c section, as it would of been done at 38 weeks with my husband there and calm! But so thankful my baby was ok and that's the main thing xxxx

Super vid :) I will also have a c-section and every woman around me told me with horrific eyes OMG you will never be able to do anything after the c-section. that they were not able to do anything for a month or more - what's the real story around the c- section? ladies who had a c-section ? nooorrmmaaalllyyy....after one week after the c-section I will have 3 exams - graduation exams ( I am 33 just to clear the age ) :)))) and everyone around me is like ...noooooo you will not be able to do it. Thoughts? I am confident that everything will be OK and I will be able to do what I need to do no matter what :)

Me girl I was walking and making food, helping hubby clean up, gently mind you, I was watching tv and sleeping in between feeds, I even took my dogs out for a walk. That's all within the first two weeks. You need to let your body calm down. So when you feel like you want to leave the house DO IT. If you feel like you're up to walking about DO IT. If you don't feel well enough lay down and cuddle the baby. You've got a genuine excuse, you've had your guts rearranged ;)
