This song is iconic in so many ways. It won't become an indisputable historical-artistic monument; it was the moment it came out. It's a shame that we tend to value valuable things when they "get older", to celebrate people's legacies only posthumously. Pourtant, History is not just The Past. It is also and mostly The Present, which is simply a live version of The Past. I listen to this song from Canada, as an Afro-Canadian having lived in a number of places where Black folks still wait for moments like the ones celebrated in this song. It transcends patriotism. It's a hymn of hope and celebration to all people who are oppressed or made invisible or made to survive all over the world. Yes, particularly Black folks all over the planet, and beyond

Imagine having so much smoke to blow. in Europe we don't have "African French" this racial construct is strictly American and disgusting it's been perpetuated by the victims for so long. Imagine not just being American and needing to be so special despite contributing nothing and taxing 67% of the system. Then imagine not wanting to be Americans, there must be a line drawn in the sand or your fragile sense of self will crumble when you realize your ancestory is black on black violence.... The same as 86% of crimes. Hmm

Ehh come on bruh. I'm a huge Hov fan, and he's hands down top 5, but he has been out rapped on tracks he has been featured on, and on tracks where he had someone feature on his. DMX on "Money, Cash, H***", Big L on "Da Graveyard", Kendrick on the "Don't Kill My Vibe" remix, Scarface on "Guess Who's Back", Kanye and Pusha on "So Appalled", Kanye on multiple tracks (too many to list) off "Watch The Throne", BIG on "Brooklyns Finest", Jada/LOX on "Blackout", Drake on "Pound Cake", Freeway on "What We Do", Ye again on the "Go Hard" remix, Jay Elect on "Shiny Suit Theory", Talib Kweli and Busta on the "Get By" remix, TI/Ye/Wayne on "Swagger Like Us", obviously Eminem on "Renegade", etc etc etc. Theres definitely more but thats just off the top. Hov is still absolutely fire and definitely top 5 but there have been plenty of tracks where he got out rapped by others.
