Tim Beatty you are an adventurous person to choose such an exotic press for your first press. Most people go with a standard press but you did a good thing and make better ammo because of the concentricity. Well done and congrats let me know if you need any help.

Kimber Cowboy so first I always make sure never disparage another piece of reloading hardware. With that said you are going to be hard pressed to find a better press at the price point with easier to load capabilities. Will other presses work yes.. can those presses take up such a small amount of space nope not like press.. this is my travel in a bucket press. I reload on the road and this is what I use. Also note you cannot prime on this press but it does everything else. Hit me at nycreloader@gmail.com if you want to chat further. I’d be happy to call and answer any questions you might have.

Thank you. Any idea why they may quit making and would you say it’s easier to operate than a regular single stage like the lnl classic.
@nycreloader4 жыл бұрын
Kimber Cowboy I’m not sure why I think perhaps it’s just that they don’t sell enough of them. As far as I am concerned it’s an awesome addition to my reloading. I love the concentricity as it’s remarkable compared to most single stage presses. Gavin did a great video one it check out ultimate reloading on KZbin where he test a bunch of presses and this came in at the top and was only slightly beaten by a couple of very expensive German presses. It may be just a rumor that these are being discontinued but I’ve hear it from multiple sources.

It seems to me that there is a fundamental engineering flaw in most reloading presses. Most use a circular vertical ram to push the case into the die. The circular ram passes through a cast iron or other metal base. The diameter of the ram has to be smaller than the hole in the base. This is to say that there has to be clearance for the ram to be able to move. The end of the ram is free to wiggle... somewhat. Depending on manufacturing standards and wear, this wiggle could be several thousandths. This leads to case alignment problems during the downstroke... especially with the operating arm set to one side. These circumstances, in turn, lead to concentricity problems. I noticed that this Summit press has a keyway milled in the back with two screws in the traveling table to take the looseness out. It seems to be a kind of gib like they use on milling machines. I suspect this makes this press less likely to introduce or worsen concentricity problems.
@nycreloader4 жыл бұрын
6NBERLS you hit it on the head. This press has amazing concentricity. There are other great single stage presses out there but from what I’ve read before I bought this press they were right. Now that I’ve been using it I’m even more impressed.

This or iron . This looks very smooth. Thank you for the video. I have a single stage lnl classic. A Dillon 550 too. Is it easier to operate and smoother than lnl
@nycreloader4 жыл бұрын
Kimber Cowboy here are the specs. All-steel linkage and cast iron frame. I have to say I love this little single stage it’s so smooth the cases don’t move but the die does. I like it a lot. So much so I think that I’m going to buy a spare and keep it in the box now that I know RCBS is going to stop making them or at least that’s what I heard.

Sure buggered up the insert with pliers, thats why wrenches and sockets were invented.

Yeah I did but I had a second one so it’s fine. My crescent wrench would not fit either and the guy I bought it from not only tightened but heavily lock tighten the threads too.

Not to be too critical but yeah that really was noticeable. Better to rehearse the operation properly before showing what not tool to use. ( not good for people just starting out in the reloading world to see this ).

How do you apply that lube to the Summit?. I have a bottle of the same lube but it's not a spray. It's just a dropper. Do you unscrew rhe zirk fitting and spray in or just apply around the edges of where the head runs up and down the column?
@nycreloader2 жыл бұрын
You can lube the piston shaft itself then actuate the piston up and down. The best method is to use a lubricant like this and a grease gun from you local hardware store. Take a picture of the fitting on the press to show them at the hardware store. Easy peazy. The lube I was talking about is also available in tube form online as well.

Hello! Nice video, thanks a lot. Wich you recommend, do I pick a tradicional redding big Boss 2, or this Summit press? I need one single stage.
@David-hm9ic2 жыл бұрын
@@celsogouvea6339 Since nobody else answered after a year, the Summit is IMO a great second press. My reasoning is that it’s difficult to use the Summit to pull bullets. Everyone will make a mistake, change their mind or end up with unknown ammunition to break down. An RCBS collet style puller just doesn’t work well on this press because it needs more room to turn the handle than the Summit allows.
